Neither of the suggestions for Error 601 and 401 appear to be true in my case at least. My husband paid for his subscription with no problems. I try to pay for my subscription twenty minutes later on the same network and computer with the same credit card. I get both errors after trying two different payment methods. Therefore, I HAVE to assume that it is not on my end. The only difference between his account and my account is that I have mine linked to a CE v1.0 and he just bought a standard game in August.
Pretty much the same scenario as me. I think it has to do with not being able to use the same card on multiple accounts, which is pretty dumb in my opinion. You can't use the same card on other accounts?

Error code 401 has nothing to do with my bank, and I have confirmed this with them. Its been three days, and I'm still unable to register a payment. I think I'm done. After all of the other nonsense that I've had to put up with and now they won't even take my money? Not worth my time.

Hopefully my thread will help solve your issues. Please give those methods a try and see if they work.

I can confirm that 'physical' Ultimate Game Cards work for adding Crysta...they will decline initially but as mentioned in another thread you have to call PlaySpan (650) 432-3200 to add the transaction to SE manually.
This workaround is F'ing ridiculous and I was seriously on the verge of just quitting over it, but whatever.
I tried 3x Credit Cards, 2x Debit Cards, 2x PayPal sources, CC through Ultima +Crysta and buying UGC from Walmart (which also declines)...I finally just drove to Gamespot and nabbed some cards and went through the PlaySpan call process.
Good luck all, this is horrible.
..also, the reason for the Ultimate Game cards declining is because of a 48h Ultimate pay lockout they put on the system after a certain number of failures. Whether this is tied to the SE card add 601 lockout, I doubt it..but you never know.

lets give SE a break if we can find the solution ourselves? WE HAVE GIVEN THEM NOTHING BUT BREAKS! I hope they crash and burn.Hopefully my thread will help solve your issues. Please give those methods a try and see if they work.

omg I am going crazy here I cannot do anything! I have 8 different credit cards from 5 different banks damn errors

or about a timer?
how the hell do I know if I have to wait 24h or 48h or 30 days? how do I know if my account got locked by inputting different credit cards?
SE should let the Customer know what's going on with their accounts by adding a timer or adding more information.
because right now I don't know what to do and how much time do I have to wait.
