Why? I am not saying I disagree entirely about intentionally wasting other peoples time. But if you have a bad player, should they not be allowed try at all, gear or not? Because that is what this entire argument sounds like to me. If you can't guaranteed beat this boss, you shouldn't be allowed to play? This is a horrible attitude to have.....
I can, to a point, concede maybe DF could allow some minimum equipment requirements to improve the chances for those groups who simply don't know any better (though I still disagree with "should"). But that won't help with a larger percentage who simply don't know these fights. And if someone wants to try a fight without gear restrictions, and can find other people who might be willing, why why must the system prevent them from failing? I really don't understand this.
My opinion, I guess, really comes down to this: if you care so so deeply about winning, that anyone who might prevent it cannot be allowed to play, then why why why are you playing with randomly assigned people in the first place? That is what worries me most about this entire argument. It comes across as this angry deep seated rage, that uneducated new players dare to play the same game as you without first having the same experience as you, or in depth reading forums/watching videos first.
And as someone else has mentioned: chances are that many if not most of the people you think need to hear this advice, never come on the forums, maybe any forums. They just are enjoying a game they bought, until some random person rages at them for not being good enough. That..
Being helpful is one thing, trying to make sure other people learn the game is one thing. But this "my way or you can't play" attitude is... Simultaneously frustrating and really sad.
edit:
a) I never intentionally do dungeons under gear if I know it. It doesn't make me any better...
b) The worst dungeon run I ever had was with people in insanely better gear than me.
c) The easiest (most dull. just run run done) was with a tank who was wearing nothing but boots (I thought he was trolling at first.. but I maybe cast cure 1 for a DPS a few times).
d) The most fun I ever had was with a group who were undergeared, (I wasn't) didn't know what they were doing(I sorta did), kept wiping, and in the end, with 1 minute-ish to go, we won anyway. (Right as I was out of MP.)
So. This "must have" attitude would basically have prevented the easiest run I ever did, would also have prevented the most fun one, but without preventing the worst. Success may be a sliding scale based on many factors, but the deciding factor isn't the equipment. However the deciding factor on my enjoyment is always based entirely on the people. If I am with a fun team, and we never win, but keep wiping because they aren't prepared, I can still enjoy myself. If I am with a win-at-all-costs overprepared team, even if nobody wipes? Chances are it isn't going to be any fun at all. And the assumption that I just want to be carried if I don't agree with you, is so frustratingly wrong. Some people are like that, but they aren't the norm in my experience. Most people just don't know what they are doing, and won't know, no matter how much you try and tell them, until they experience it for themselves. Some people, simply learn by doing. And on the other side, maybe they DO know what they are doing and are simply having fun when they know it won't inconvenience anyone else at all anyway. But anyway. I am done.... Sigh.
