In game newspaper - Tribune Style.

Sorry if something like this has already been posted elsewhere, but this is just one idea that I submitted via the feedback form a long time ago, and wanted to post it here.

The basic idea is to have an in game newspaper that players can read and interact with. This could be done one of a few ways (my thoughts):

1. A menu option in the main menu
2. News stands, NPC that will give/sell you a paper.

The paper would host information much like we read on the lodestone, but we could read it in game. It would also display some fun random information, like player who killed the most marmots this week. The title would read "Marmot population on the decline" or something interesting, and you could see some fun random statistics on your server.

It would be simple when introduced, like I said above, have information from the lodestone regarding the lore posts (much like we had today) but down the road it would also be a place where you could get quests... For example, you might see an article about an old lady needs help gathering nuts for the winter or something like that... Reading that article would give you the option to go help the lady, and thus a quest is started.

It could be used for all kind of interesting information, and perhaps one day even allow players to take out adds or just some random fun notes to other players... For example, x linkshell wants to wish x player a happy birthday.

Anyway, having this information in game, and having an in game newspaper would be a great addition to the world. And while this shouldn't be a priority, as the battle system currently is the priority, it would be something that would be nice at some point.

Yes, this idea could work as well... I like the idea of having it on the menu more, as then everyone could have access to it every time... And it's not something that would need to be updated everyday, but once a month would be a lot of fun...

Also, it could point to you to things going on in the game world right now. For example if the companies are fighting on the front lines in some public event, it could notify you that is what is going on right now (like once you logged in) so you can know what's going on... but I figured that might be something further down the line.

I liked it too ^^Would be very nice seeing some lalafats yelling "EXTRA! EXTRA!" and selling us new´papers with this kind of stuff ^^

It wouldn't need to be constant, but would be a nice feature for when something like last word or the background stories like hatching-tide or little lady are added! ^^

I would love there to be a Lala, yelling out "Extra Extra..." Lots of possibilities, but as with everything, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Yes! XD And that would be one more little goal for players, to get in the statistics of the newspaper.

As for players to post ads, it would be a great feature, given that someone filters the ads before they are published.
And to post Lodestone information like that ingame is a brilliant idea.

Agreed, yes someone would need to "filter" out bad messages, otherwise just have a set of canned messages users could pick from... But your right, otherwise people would be flooding the newspaper with crap...

The other option would to allow for players to post "sales" that are having on their retainers, or even a classifieds section where they could post things they are looking to buy, sell, or linkshell recruiting messages, etc.

I like the idea. Would be great if crafter X has an abundance of something declining in price and needed to get his name out there more he can just use the paper. May be even add a section to the paper 'selling ads' where players can spend some gil to post an advertisment for LS, mats, items, quest help...just about anything. Adds another gil sink.
