    First advice I would give any noob crafter - even if you are only planning on taking one DoH to 50, get WVR, ALC, CUL, LTW, and CRP to 15. This gives you access to 5 very nice cross-class abilities that may it way easier to synth HQ items (~75% of the time for even level with no HQ mats, 100% on anything you can make with HQ mats), which means higher EXP on the combine, and 300% EXP and Gil on leves.

    edit: You will obviously not be able to slot all 5 cross class abilities at once - you will need to prioritize them based on what class you are currently. Personally, I prioritize Hasty Touch and Waste Not first, then Tricks of the Trade, Rumination, and ... don't remember the name of the WVR ability, but 0% chance of failing a progression is worth the 10% hit in progress...

    You can get any crafting class to 15 with inexpensive materials available at crafting guild vendors - Even if what you need is not available at the crafting guild you are leveling (Leather at the leatherworker's guild, for instance) it is available at the other crafting guilds.

    After that, if you have the time and inclination, get the rest of them to 15 as well, as the other cross-class abilities, while not as universally useful as the four mentioned above, are situationally useful.
