    High level gathering is useless

There is just no market for any of this stuff. I originally leveled mining to fund mats for goldsmithing, because the mats were expensive. In less than a week the value of all the materials has hit rock bottom. There is nothing you can gather that is worth ANYTHING. The most valuable item that can be gathered is shards...which can be done at level one. There is still some value in the unspoiled nodes, but another 2-3 days and they will be worthless too. This has to be the only game I've played where the gathering profession couldnt make money selling their gathers.

So no one are buying what you gather, or the price is lower then the vendoring price? Maybe there is not much crafters around yet to sell your stuff to?
Also I've noticed there are already mining bots doing their job..

Gathering is very simple, so bots are easy to write and use.

Crafters aren't buying, because there is no market for most gear (as it is all an easy reward from the NPC or dungeon, or sold cheap by the NPC)

If crafters aren't buying, then gatherers have noone to sell to.

Many people are also scared of the lack of gil influx to the game, so the economy is shrinking and noone has any faith in spending gil.

What they need to do is reduce the price of gil sinks in this game i.e. (teleport, repairs, etc) remove the quest gear that is given unless provided by your class quests and give crafters a market of some type.

The market still needs time to form. I'm finding level 10 materials with 50 entries on the market selling for 10-50X the NPC price and the gear its used to make selling for 8-10X NPC values. A couple new players that aren't familiar with the game may make the mistake of buying those items, but for the most part they will never sell. But people use existing market price to price their own sales (search ash logs and see they're selling for 80, so you post for 75). Eventually those numbers will come down.

A system I've seen used in other games that helped the market form was to post NPC prices on the market board for the item. That way people posting their own items have a much better idea what it's real value is and can decide whether to keep crafting at 40% NPC price or move on to another item which is selling for 95%.

It does not need time, in fact the early phase was the only part where it made money. Its going to be 100% worthless very soon.

You probably just need to wait for the crafters to catch up. Not many of the servers had crafters who pushed through only using HQ Leve's.

The servers with all of those crafters(5-10 per profession as of late) have end game gathering markets that are most definitely profitable.

On the contrary, at least on Hyperion the endgame crafting market has tanked, raw materials are virtually worthless (e.g HQ Zircon sells for 200g, NQ Gold Ore is about the same). Meanwhile Materia sells for a whopping 24k for III and 50k for IVs.

The problem is in the gear design and the fact that all the high end crafted items are utterly pointless to make due to their lower stats and higher cost in Tomestones compared to Darklight. Since gear is essentially not a factor in the economy aside from the crafter specific armors and tools, they have more or less disabled the economy.

I'm under the impression this was done intentionally to stagnate level 50 crafters on legacy servers and prevent speed crafters on new servers from cornering markets and throwing off the balance. As it stands there is virtually no reason to level a craft outside of being able to meld. What I think is going to happen in the near future is that crafters are going to require tips for melding since they dumped all of their money into leveling and gearing their craft.

I say this as a 50 GSM (Craftsmanship:360/Control:350) who dumped 500k into my gear for no reason.

    What do you mean useless?
I am but level 20 Botanist, but so far I have sold everything. Yes I have sold cheap, 9-19 gil / piece, with modest profits, 2-3k / hour maybe.

I was hoping that I could make more money at higher levels, why do you think it`s not so?

Can you post an example? Item / price, etc?

Is killing mobs better at level 50? For the mats they drop I mean.
