I may be a bit late to the character evolution party but it prompted me to look back through my 10+GB screenshot archive and I was so surprised to rediscover what my character used to look like and how much she's changed @.@

I started playing the game because I'd seen screenshots of cute catgirls and I wanted one too so when I first made her, my objective was to be as cute and sweet and sugary as possible. I went with a mooncat and a cold, blue-purple-white colour scheme, the fluffiest tail and generally a wintery aesthetic. It was January so I guess that was just the mood I was in.


As I was going through AAR, her colour scheme started leaning more towards pink and I traded snow freckles for eyeshadow. But at that point I was starting to get annoyed with how goofy my character's expressions looked in some cutscenes. I was thinking of toning down the sugar a bit.




Around the same time I started thinking of Fantasiaing into a suncat because I kept running into so many pretty ones, both NPCs and players, and I'd also picked up Bard and wanted to try a fiercer and more flamboyant look to match. As soon as I got my free end-of-AAR Fantasia, I made the switch. Sadly... it wasn't long before I regretted it. I hated the new clanmarks and the face itself looked *too* fierce and darkening her eyes made it even worse, the contrast was too much. In a lot of cutscenes, she just looked angry all the time. I overdid it and instead of balancing the sugar, she lost most of it.




After the first few quests of HW I decided to pop another Fanta. I went back to cute, but this time I was shooting for a "kind" kind of cute rather than the original childish. It worked! I'd finally struck gold! I was so happy with this look that it stayed pretty much the same through the rest of HW and all of SB. Over time, I made some small changes to skin/eye colour and went through a couple of different tails but those were just finishing touches.




I did have one moment of ABSOLUTE RAVING MADNESS when I wanted to try an Au Ra as I was stepping into Stormblood and seeing so many of them around... So I bought a Fanta, made the change... and it lasted all of 2 minutes before I panicked and bought another just to revert it! I couldn't bear to lose my Miqo >.< After that I just decided to make an Au Ra alt so I could have the cake and eat it. I've been playing both of them regularly ever since.

Anyways, fast-forward to Shadowbringers, I ended up changing her look again... a few times. On a whim, I decided I wanted to make her look a little younger (as a Warrior of Darkness should be, naturally) so I shortened her tail, added a little blush, made her eyes droopier and gave her twintails. I also felt heterochromia was a bit too much so I settled on just yellow for the eyes to contrast more sharply with the pink hair.



The last change I've made so far was another makeover shortly after finishing the MSQ. At first, I intended to just change her hair because I couldn't get used to the twintails and the texture quality on that hair kept bothering me, especially in cutscenes with all the closeups and under different lighting conditions. I also didn't like the shadow the bang was casting on her face.
However, I didn't want to go back to the ponytail so I tried to explore different options and eventually arrived at the fluffy pigtails style I really wanted to try... but it framed her face in a very different way that exposed the sides, and in turn the clan marks. I never liked how much short styles made the clan marks pop so... after much agonising and creating a lot of dummy characters to test and compare different solutions, I decided to go with the nuclear option and just remove them! I was at first afraid it would massively decrease the cuteness factor, but I was happily wrong! It turned out perfect! <3

Oh man, character evolution party eh?

Well can't get more evolutionary than starting out as a Hyur Midlander.



Then around October 2018, at the behest of a friend (I don't talk to her anymore), I Fantasia'd into a Male Seeker of the Sun.



The only changes I've made since then are just changing his hair colour from black to white.
