You obviously missed the point. Might want to read the entire post instead of taking snippets out of it.
Debating on whether it's even worth it to attempt to explain, you seem like a guy with a one-track mind.
Taco Bell, think outside the box!
i read your whole post - it said you are upset the server is full of characters to render that would be rendered even if ppl are not afk - so i told you to go play the game since you can log in just fine instead of staring at afk characters being rendered (but you are fine with staring at playing characters being rendered???)
pretty fun solution, dont you agree? /shrug
So now you assume I stare at AFK characters. Cute. Don't you just know everything? Thank you, o' wise one.i read your whole post - it said you are upset the server is full of characters to render that would be rendered even if ppl are not afk - so i told you to go play the game since you can log in just fine instead of staring at afk characters being rendered instead of playing characters being rendered....

You're right, AFK characters have absolutely 0 impact on the server. You got me! Boy, how silly am I?
Rendering 30 active characters as compared to 30 active + 80 AFK makes no difference.
You sir, win the day. Enjoy! Obvious brick wall, so my job is done here.
-Flies away-
If people are AFK it is because they are not currently playing. If they were logged out, their characters would not have to be rendered, thus creating less lag, etc. for other players. It's that simple. Why do people even need to be logged in AFK for hours? People keep aksing why others care, but what I want to know is why people do it in the first place if they are going to be gone for a long while... I don't get it...i read your whole post - it said you are upset the server is full of characters to render that would be rendered even if ppl are not afk - so i told you to go play the game since you can log in just fine instead of staring at afk characters being rendered (but you are fine with staring at playing characters being rendered???)

People seriously can't wait a few minutes to log on when they get home from work or whatever real life stuff they were doing? Really?I get why people do it, why wait any amount of time you don't have to right? I don't like waiting either. Unfortunately that's also why the game systems have to be modified to ensure game stability since us western gamers are notorious for only looking out for number 1, everyone else is everyone else's problem.
Okay, fair point. It's not a problem I personally have, anyways. I just think that if you are not playing you should just log out. I don't see the merit of staying logged into a game if you are not playing it or why people try so hard to find ways to stay in-game AFK when a timer is implemented.
This way of thinking is so perplexing to me. 0__0 It's not like being AFK in a game makes you get your money's worth. That only comes with the time you actually spend playing.
Anyways, I've given my two cents on the matter already.
I don't doubt that it happens. I guess I'll just never really get it. Honestly, people being AFK doesn't really bother me all that much. It's the mentality surrounding it that bugs me more. Ah well, the servers are stable for now, and people will continue to do what they want, I suppose.

It is not even necessarily a exploit, you have never started a crafting macro and got distracted by real life? I know i have, and was certainly not trying to stay logged in.
I still need to queue to get into Leviathan. Off hand I would say ~75% of the time I get a put in a pretty fast moving queue. I'm very thankful for the auto-logout feature SE implemented. I hope this exploit gets fixed if logging in because a problem again.
I have yet to login without a Queue, several servers are still at max capacity and people circumventing the afk timer is contributing to the capacity problem.

It's amazing, but yes, there are some people who cannot be bothered to wait even a single minute to login to a game, at least not willingly, and don't care who else they might be affecting by their actions.![]()

So... People with poor PC spec will now blame other people instead of themselves? I have not had any issues with rendering characters, and even if I did, I would not blame that on other players.
Something odd happened yesterday. I was browsing the forums and caught the auto-logout countdown, 20 seconds, and cancelled it. About 45 minutes later I left for an interview, they messed up and it ended up taking 3 hours. But when I came back, I was still logged-in standing around in Limsa. I wonder?I've noticed (counted at least 20 players in game) quite a few players going AFK "while in the process of synthesis"... in other words, they've assumed the synthesis position, kneeling, using tools to begin synthesis or are in mid-synthesis and just stay that way...for hours...
A way to circumvent the auto-log-out? Because that's what it looks like to me...just sayin'.
