Why does the Overmeld system work like a F2P game rather than a sub?

why are you complaining? In 1.0 the entire item would blow up and be lost if you failed. People spent over a million gil trying to get the gambler's crown with the cheapest possible items. I got the crown last night for less than 4k

Because if something in the game is still stupid, or unfair to the player, why should it still be in the game?

It doesn't matter if it was formerly even more unfair to the player if it's still unfair to the player currently.
