    Is it on PS3? Then most likely the game save for this particular character is damaged. Copy it out to USB, then delete it from PS3 and start game (just the character specific one!) - this will resolve the issue however you'll indeed loose the local settings for that character (crossbar, HUD customization and so) but the overall progress, items etc. is ofcourse kept on game servers.
