I'm adding to the "don't listen to these people SE" front. Don't give in to the instant gratification crowd.
I'd accept a token system if it took 30+ runs to get the weapon.

Crafted weapons aren't overpriced. Their price is a direct result of what is needed to make them. The iLVL 70 crafted weapons need mix ins that require tomestones of philosophy to buy. And you need 9 of them. 9. Just for one weapon or armor piece. For the price of getting full vanya (in terms of ATP), you could deck out multiple jobs in full darklight. So you need over 1k ATP to make one of those weapons. If you spent 10-12 hours farming tomestones and other stuff, not to mention leveling up all your crafting and gathering so you could even make the thing (and crafting yourself HQ sets and decking them out with materia, all of which require a lot of time, effort, and/or gil) you probably wouldn't sell it for 5k, either. I'm guessing they are multiple millions, right? That's because someone spent a looong time to make it.I agree...being unlucky isn't fun at all.
I am still farming for a proper weapon but no luck with either Garuda or Ifrit. Crafted weapons are overpriced and gil grenerating is a problem as is. Haven't attempted Titan yet because of full schedule but I wouldn't like to do it before getting a proper weapon. Otherwise I'll just go with the Relic directly...
I do think it would be nice if primals dropped 2 weapons. It has to be fun for newbies farming Ifrit, which is a total joke, and just saying screw it I'm going to farm Garuda instead because the time investment is just ridiculous, so you may as well get an actual good weapon out of it.
Also it would be nice if you didn't need 9 potash or whatever to craft stuff. Grind, grind, grind... Of course, once you grind up enough ATP for that stuff, you probably have enough ATM to buy something way better (or use ATP to buy something comparable... and also for less ATP). That part of the progression system is totally busted.
Honestly there is nothing wrong with a token system. Luck is a shitty part of MMO's. You put the time in there the same as everyone else. You should be able to earn it over time.No!... no more effin tokens. Had enough of that crap. "Oh no poor Timmy has had bad luck, lets give him his loser trophy so he'll feel accomplished" Not sure if maybe an increase in drop rate for some weapons are needed but more token b/s is defninitely not.
I can hardly remember the last time I was excited for winning an end game item drop thanks to those stupid tokens. I much prefer 100 runs with nothing then with a huge "wooh! Finally! /equip" at the 101st, than a "I need to run this exactly 20 times to get enough tokens."
Ugggh.. I hate how western players cry cry cry to get limits on content and/or drops handed to them. (yes, even after 40 attempts). It's a game of endurance. Instant gratification leads to game hopping and content dying out MUCH quicker. We all know this to be true. SE don't create/give us content quick enough to support token systems all over the game (I believe that's part of what killed FFXI... the token system works - but the lack of content updates to keep progression fresh is where the killer is).
I personally vote against token systems for high end gear. Perhaps giving a slightly subpar (-1) version of the weapons for tokens is fine; but the real thing should come from... well... the real thing... period. Just my opinion.

I love how people call "equal effort equal reward" instant gratification, while they praise current systems where you can get them in 1 run due to luck.
Keep doing your thing people. You are the comedy of the Internet.
"luck" and "RNG" have always been part of MMOs. It's time we accept that this is a small part of what made MMOs great. People don't stick to MMOs anymore, they hop around them every couple of weeks or months, and its things like token systems (which lead to boredom after the content is complete) that promotes it. Getting your drop after one run is technically instant gratification in a different context. In reality though - it's pure luck. It's nice to have *some* random elements to the game that require brute endurance and stamina. Sure, keep some token systems in the game -- but absolutely everything doesn't have to have a predefined ending/win.
Exactly this....
You know whats funny? Its the LUCKY people that get it on first run that are the first to say no to the tokens.
Incredibly bigoted view, every complains. East, West, North South, blahblah. everyone. Generally about the same things.
This system is a little unreasonable considering by the time you get an Ifrit weapon or such you could have likely finished your relic. Having a completely RNG weapon distribution for these fights just isn't the best course of action. I think reintroducing the Point/Token system would be a happy middle ground, maybe have a shared token between all 3 Primals too, Keeping it simple. Doesnt need to be "5 fights and i got the tokens!" could take 10 or 20, But some sort of foreseeable goal past the luck of RNG would help keep a lot of people motivated.

No tokens. This is coming from someone who ran ifrit dozens of times to get the two weapons that I do have back in 1.0, before SE implemented a tokens system. Never got my Mog weapon back then, but I'm not crying about it.
