The real kicker is in order to even get a serious invite to garuda/titan for my relic completion I NEED the Ifrit one. At least that's how it is on my server. And don't pretend it's not common for people in DF (especially the tanks since they know they won't wait long) to check gear and then immediately drop.

I'm so sorry that it has taken you more than one whole week to get the weapon you want. i take back all of what i said about all of my ifrit/moogle fights over several months running at least four fights, up to fifteen a day. you are right, demanding your specific weapon in one day or one week is in no way instant gratification.
After all, you should get what you want and not find some friends who can run it together until everyone there gets what they need. that would be silly

Wait... weren't you the one that posted in the shard thread about long it takes to get shards? And how mind numbing it is to level gathering classes especially on shards?

    That is you, right?
Because I can also you can gather friends together and get a ton of shards together until you all get the amount of shards you need.

So, I'm supposed to wait weeks, months, who knows how long to get a primal weapon if I'm unlucky.

Ok, if you feel that way, let's make getting into the Amdapor Keep dungeon the same rng.

Oh, sorry, rng gods say you don't get in today, try again later! No instant gratification for you!

I am for a token system. I don't want it to be a small amount of tokens, I do expect to work for a primal weapon, but, there should be something in place that will eventually get me a weapon rather than the all too real possibility that I'd NEVER get one.

idk why people are still crying about gil. There's no problems with the gil. I have 400K all from quests, levequests, guildhests, and selling drops from dungeons at reasonable prices. And I haven't bought any equipment, since you basically everything from quests in this game and not to mention you get 2.5K on MOST level 40-50 quests per allagan bag anyways. I have no idea what you people are buy atm, since everything is pretty much obtainable in the game with out buying crafted gear. Even endgame stuff can be done all on your own with spending next to nothing, repair bills maybe but seriously. What are you people buying?

you'll be irritated after you 20th, 30th, or high attempt to get 1 weapon knowing it will become hard as the game becomes older and introduces more Classes and Jobs into the game.

The fact RNG has always been part of MMO's in the past does not justify its continued use. A loot system that gives instant gratification to some and repeated nothing to others is not good game design, it is old, skinner box design that was first put in place because no one came up with anything better.

Randomness can be a good thing within limits and in certain contexts. Random placement of a treasure chest to find? cool, hunting time. Random stats on a gear drop? not so cool, that renders a lot of generated gear inferior as showcased in D3.

Random additional stats on gear? That could be awesome if thought out well. If some piece of gear always had the same core stats, but there was a random element to a subset of stats, that could be the best of both worlds because all the versions of the gear could still be viable even if only 1 was optimal.

Now what if there was a token system for Ifrit that would yield a weapon after lets say 30 kills, but the weapon is not the same one as the weapon drop? Lets say the weapon is not quite as good as the main drop, but still sufficient to move onto the next content? That would put a cap on the number of runs you absolutely had to do in order to advance, but still give a reason to go after the random drop since it's the superior weapon.

If you think that's a bad idea, what method would you use? if you prefer the status quo, could you elaborate on why you think instant gratification and a progression stonewall randomly distributed by luck is a good method?

I too would like to see the token system come back. Not only is it annoying to see one weapon drop but made worse when you have to come a job different then the weapon your after while someone else "needs" it and the best you can do is greed.

Ive chased my Ifrit sword and Great axe for a very very VERY long time in 1.0 with no luck. This is not instant gratification, I had just gotten almost enough tomes to get my sword when they took them away. I think after trying for that long it is okay to be kinda bleh when random person on the second ever run gets it

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

I can agree. But last night I ran 2 AK and got alot of gear and felt lucky and did garuda and got my sword first try. But I had to kill ifrit around 20 times to get his weapon.

I don't even want the primal weapons and I think the tokens are a good idea. Especially since the better weapons are easier to get, it doesn't make sense to make a weaker weapon based on pure chance. But really though, what does it matter to one player how the other player gets their uniq/untrd weapon?
