    [dev1026]Targeting

Hi! The new targeting system seems nice however, It created more problems for me than it helped. I always used up and down on my gamepad to cycle through myself and party members. Im always changing the type of things i can target on accident, and causing myself many problems.
My suggestion is, instead of having it so you can only target one type of thing, would it be possible to change it to a filtering system that stays on the UI. So this way you could filter out other players, non battle target monsters, party, all enemies, ect. I know making it accessible from the game pad was the main goal, so I thought of that as well. an example of a way would be hitting the button for the status window, then pushing up or down from there to cycle through the filters and check them on or off.
Thank you for your work on the game and listening to us players SE.

I would like to assign left and right as a type, and the same for up and down as a target type.

For example, I could set left and right as enemy, and then set up and down as party.

If not that, please update sub targets to up down party please.

Is it really that hard to use the current system? Up-Down to select target type, Left-Right to select target of chosen type.

I know a number of people who like the new system that SE has implemented.

However, I don't disagree that a parallel system that allows you to do the same thing but in a different way for those that want something different is not a bad idea (you could easily set it up to choose which you want via the Configuration menus). A filtering system would allow more flexibility rather than setting just one target type, and could be useful for those that like to target both party members and mobs (eg: mages).

The new gamepad targeting system, imo, is horrible. As a mage, where it's necessary to switch back and forth between party and mob, I need to close down my action bar to cycle thru the various modes. Often times, in the process, I re-open my action bar only to find I've modified the setting, requiring, once again, exit action bar and reset, re-enter action bar. While this might be fine for a meele, who's primarily concerned with target mobs, this is very inefficient for a mage. I can't even target myself now (F1 doesn't work) without cycling thru everyone in the party.

I love the new system - All it does is prove that we're so preprogrammed without realizing it. It doesn't take much to adjust to the new system honestly, especially because "Party" and "Enemy" are literally next to each other I've had no problems as a conjurer or Gladiator.

Just wanted to say F7 or F9 targets yourself (I forget which). F2 through F6 gets the first few PT members.

Also, I agree that this targeting system is even worse than before. It only allows you to change targeting type when you DON'T need to. You can't make use of it when selecting spell target, or even when your action bar is up. I don't understand how it worked well in XI and yet doesn't now.

But it does cause problems when you use a controller and relied on the D-pad to cycle through your party members in an ordered fashion. If forced to use Left and Right (since down now changes your targets instead of targeting anything) you cycle through your party in a way that makes little sense. You might select the same 3 people over and over while mashing the right button waiting to highlight the person who is actually dying. I think it has less to do with being 'pre-programmed' and more to do with having a logical design. There are a reason why some things work. :/

Playing as s mage as well i had a lot of difficulties - and more dead bodies close to me - then before.
Playing on the controller like i did in ffxi and so far in ffxiv, which worked very good, now is a big problem.

There should be an option for party and all - but you shoudl be able to bind the keys for it, so its just like you want it. Party would be mobs and members (who needs friendly... didnt find a situation where you really need that)

Let everyone customize their targetting system and how many different options they'd like to have. So nobody can complain and is happy - at least for the time being.
