I would like to see the xpac before PS3 release so that the box artwork and content will include the new stuff to boost sales.
So i see it as:
Battle fix, June.
2-3 good content patches, June/July/August.
Steam release, September.
Expansion (Ishgard, Chocobos, Classes ect), October.
PS3 release, December.
You can add 2011 or 2012 to the end of those months lol!
Oh P.S Triple Triad!

this thread makes me laugh. as other has mentioned, the core game isn't even complete to the new directors standards, as why it is still f2p (in other words, i guess you can say it is still in beta >_>). and you are already asking about an expansion? lol
Cart before horse.
The expansion will come with the PS3 release. They already have the PS3 version ready but they are holding it back for obvious reasons. Once the core of the game is fixed we should start seeing things progress at a much more rapid rate as content that was pulled at release will be adjusted and put back in along with new content. Maybe however they may just save as much content they have ready as possible and combine it with the expansion to make it huge to generate even more hype for the PS3 launch.

Also would it be worth giving it to PC for 2-3 weeks to fix bugs?
Or even give PC a week head start as a 'reward'?

I think the quality of the game needs to be high enough to charge a subscription fee before they can justify charging people for an expansion. The PS3 release will bring new content but a proper expansion wont happen until later. I expect them to start charging for the game with the PS3 release aswell.
Oh they did say they would be doing a PS3 Beta as well didn't they, so I think that they will get some content in before that starts as they wouldn't want to give off a bad impression. PS3 Beta won't be limited like ours was they will most likely get full access to everything that we do, just like the 360 Beta of FFXI maybe they will even let them keep their characters too like they did with the 360 and just give them a world transfer when it finishes. So they should have a month or two of that then the expansion ships with the PS3 release.
I would totally agree with an expansion pack coming out when the ps3 release hits, I mean it makes sense. SE is going to need something to help people to want to buy their product, and when the ps3 release hits an expansion pack would be the perfect thing.
I mean really when you think about it, with a new expansion, I'm sure social outlets like IGN and Game Informer, etc... will all re-grade SE's work, and once they do, they can kind of throw away the 4.0 they received, and replace it with the hopefully better score they would receive from their expansion pack.
Let's see, when FFXI first came out in Japan, it was basically the same thing that FFXIV is now. They used Japan as a larger Open Beta type ordeal before shipping it around the world. When FFXI first came out it only had THF, WAR, MNK, WHM, RDM, and BLM.... After the first expansion FFXI received a ton of new innovations and classes, for example, BRD BST DRK DRG NIN PLD RNG SAM and SMN... In other words, they basically increased their number of classes by 200%, I see no reason as to why when the ps3 release happens we can't see something close to that effect.
Overall I believe them to be releasing an expansion pack with the ps3 release, it follows how FFXI was raised if you will. I still have a lot of faith in this game, and I think once patch 1.18 hits, we'll see a lot of core changes occur that will allow an expansion pack to be more viable. Besides, it might be nice to release an expansion pack with the ps3 release including all of the content updates we've received thus far, I feel like that would be a nice touch if that was added as well.
