Cross realm dungeon finder systems always lend themselves to trolls and toxic players. I played WoW a long time ago before the dungeon finder, and I have to say that the community back then was a whole lot better. You had to form groups, you had to find people on your own server to run with. Because of this, people's friend lists were brimming with people they enjoyed playing with. They took the time and effort to find these people, and friendships were built and the dungeon experience was a much more pleasant one. If someone was a total jerk, they got removed from the party, we found someone to replace them, and we continued on. I have to honestly say that it was VERY rare for anyone to explode or go insane back then, because they knew if they did, they'd be alienating one more group of people that they needed if they wanted to do the content.

Enter random dungeon finder! The bullies, trolls, and general jerks now have a way to get groups! They don't need to make friends! They can just repeatedly subject some poor group of random sods to their bad behavior. On the few days when they decide to keep their mouths shut, they might not alert people to their noobish ways. The bad thing in FFXIV is it does not have a crossrealm blacklist, WoW does. In WoW at least, if you get a total jerk in your random dungeon you can put them on your ignore list and never have to group with that character again.

It's sad that there are so many trolls and jerks on the internet, and MMOs need to stop giving them ways to have access to an infinite number of people to troll. We need a smarter duty finder that tries to first pair you with people on your own server, and then fills the remaining slots with people not on your server. We also really need a crossrealm blacklist so that if someone is mean enough to you, you can just put them on your blacklist. Also, blacklists need to be account wide. If you ignore one character on someone's account, even if they make an alt, you really don't want to hear from that alt either.

I feel, the best policy is to be kind and polite to people as much as you can! Make friends on your own server in LS and FC and just in general. The more on your friends list, the more people you might have to group with. Even bringing one friend into duty finder with you reduces your chances of getting a random troll. When you end up in a completely random group, speak up first, tell everyone hello, try and set the mood with a friendly greeting. If people are still jerks from the start, then it just can't be helped.

The thing I try to do is keep in mind that the duty finder is a new system in a new MMO and that they will work to improve it as time goes on. It was the same with WoW. When the dungeon finder was first added, there were a whole lot of necessary features that it was lacking. We can just post our ideas and hope that the devs sit up and take notice. In time, it will get better, and until then, the best thing anyone can do is make lots of friends on your own server to try and fill out some of those slots that were always random before. If you can't be bothered to make any friends at all on your own server, you don't want friends, and you don't want the social aspect of a Linkshell or FC... then you just might be part of the problem!

Almost makes me miss the days of Chains of Promathia on FFXI, when the game was so brutal it weeded out the trash players with ruthless efficiency. I say almost because for all my fond memories of XI, it is in retrospect a bad game when it comes to its core mechanics and I wouldn't dream of going back to it with how lovely XIV is.

But there needs to be some way of enforcing standards and rooting out all the jerkbags.
Isn't it a little hypocritical to state that something needs to be done about jerks while, in the same post, bash millions of people because there are some toxic players on another game?

What is wrong with this community? At least one thing readily comes to mind - the need to point fingers at other communities as the source of blame. Endgame too "hardcore"? WoW players are at fault. Endgame too casual? Darn that WoW! Community toxic and bitter? WoW again.

This is the Internet. People are willing to do things they wouldn't normally otherwise under conditions of anonymity - and that's true no matter where you come from. Simply pointing fingers - whether "justified" (extremely ironic air quote usage here) or not - never actually resolves the problems they complain about.

Yoroshiku is actually more like "Nice to meet you". Usually when you meet someone for the first time you'll say "Hajimemashite Yoshroshiku-onegaishimasu". Literalliy is something like "Meeting your for the first time please look favorable upon me, I'm begging you"

I would imagine you would end the run with something like "otsukare-sama deshita" or maybe just "otsukare" its like "thanks for the effort". You'll say it to your co-workers at the end of the day, or my mother in law says it to me after I've driven her all over town to buy things.. seems appropriate for the end of a run.

The problem goes deeper than the Duty Finder, it's down to human nature.

    http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/17/47...pring-suicides

Basically the dev team needs to counterbalance human nature by adding in accountability measures, like rewards for successful completion or penalties for locking people out if they're not afk; such things like that.

As you can see in this picture tank decided to sit while the rest of us fought on. He did not only do it in this battle but in every battle. He also called the party dumb at points and said if the party didn't do as he said he would screw it up. Fortunately, we were able to clear it without him, hope these kinds of people go away soon.

Isn't it ironic that a community so insecure about WoW, constantly feels the need to reference it?

I know it's not a comfort but, they will be gone soon. Hopefully we'll get back what we're all missing, a real FF community.
By real you mean the V1 community that forced a V2 because they didn't like V1. You heard it from them first folks FF14 is dead.

my experience in this game is that we are dealing with a new generation of gamers. they are younger than norm either mentally or age wise and do not have the common courtesies we usually experience in other games. I was actually trying to help a healer do their job better so she could stop dying and when I did another group member jumped on me and told me to shutup and quit tellin her how to do her job, the same thing happened on another occasion with a tank.

The vast majority of the time I have spent in the duty finder at 50 has been abysmal so far. Wipe once the first time doing Ifrit (HM no less) since July? AWFUL PLAYERS SHIT AWFUL GO DIE IN A FIRE RAGE QUIT. Tank didn't keep threat the second an AoE pull occurred because two DPS used all their burst and didn't pay attention to the threat meter? L2TANK rage quit.

I have played WoW since beta and the attitude people have with each other here is just as bad if not worse in my experience so far. The vitriol towards people they have only just met is insane. I love this game, but the community is so toxic and it is really killing my enjoyment.
