Gotta say it could also be the server you are currently on. At the moment i've run a few with randoms and they've never dared trash talked us or been impatient. I think it really depends on the server.. I remember once being on a Tera server that was full of trash talking idiots that barely enjoyed working together. Then I joined GW 2 and the server I was on was very helpful and had great guilds.. Sometimes some communities in some servers are literally poop stains compared to others!
Ohh now I just realized you're from Ultros too.. How odd.. Maybe because the people actually leveling up right now in around my levels are taking it easy and enjoy the game. Since you're maxed now, you may be with a lot of people that are overly obsessed and needing to have everything as quick as possible. So when things go wrong, they get extremely volatile. Because seriously, when I've joined groups for dungeons it's been pretty good. We're all new to it and have a learning curve. Doesn't mean we don't like to be really good at it though :s but I never get dick heads!

I think people blaming their problems on WoW are one of the problems themselves. WoW can be bad, but even their official forums aren't this bad. I would say its the fact thatI think majority of the rude players are directly from WoW, and are from the group of gamers that expect instant gratification with no effort. These players are irritating for me also, I usually leave group if they bother me too much (trash talking is unacceptable for me imo).
I think WoW has ruined a lot of the MMO community by being so casual friendly and by making gear so easy to get. Players don't realise that games are suppose to be hard and they don't realise that everyone in the party is important to the group.
1. Its a 'new' game, but there are already 'experienced' people from 1.0. They want to stay on top and have dived straight into endgame and haven't had to go through being new in a long time. Couple this with
2. New players, not just to ffxiv, but mmo's in general. There are a lot of FF fans trying their first mmo with this, a lot of console games trying their first mmo. There's a big divide here where its mostly either 'vets' or 'newbies', and that's what's causing the main issue.

But aren't you now just not generalizing and basically trash talking people that played another MMO?
I rarely met people in WOW that acted like the ones here, not in game or on the forums. They're worse than WoW, way worse than WoW. I played WoW for 6+ years up until about a month ago. I never had to sift through the garbage like I have to in this game. They're just terrible, terrible people. People that shouldn't even be allowed to communicate with other human beings.
It has something to do with that Blizzard sorts this stuff out.
Also maybe the Eu servers are less trash than the US ones, cant' tell.

In the long term, I would say don't worry too much about it OP. After the first 30 days is up, most of the trolls and d-bags will have gone. There will certainly be some remaining, and there will always be elitists as well, but it shouldn't be as noticeable.
And to the poster who said this was all to blame on DF... you have no idea what you're talking about. Being able to more quickly and easily form a group without having to make them manually doesn't have any effect on their behavior. If anything, it would make them less irritated. I run probably 8-10 instances a day and in a week I've only had 1 truly toxic player, 1 troll leaver. Of course, I set the DF to J/E and am on Masamune, so that might help the issue. NA is certainly plagued with more rude people... but that still has nothing to do with DF. Rude people don't suddenly become polite when they have to find groups manually.
I'm legitimately glad you haven't had to deal with some of the people I have had to. You're doing it right. Don't rush to the endgame like I did. There's not much positivity waiting for you at the moment. Just tons of frustration and impolite people. Maybe things will clear up in time, but I can't really see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.Ohh now I just realized you're from Ultros too.. How odd.. That's cute. How does that change the fact they're difficult? You do realize that the way you overcome difficulty is by learning...? i.e. EXPERIENCE That, and of course they'll become easier as people get OVERGEARED for them over a year. This comment was so ridiculous, I was flabbergasted at how oblivious someone would have to be to make it.
Sorry, I was unclear. I didn't mean this is the ONLY issue. I mean, some people are just jerks, while there are also lots of nice 1.0 people. I just meant I think this is what contributes a big portion, not the only thing though.
This is what I'm talking about. Smack-talking and arguing at every turn. It's even in a thread about how terrible the community is.You should probably go back to whatever stone you crawled out from. A year from now, none of those will be considered hard. Just like in every MMORPG, inexperience yields to experience and fights will go much easier and quicker. Once upon a time Kirin was thought to be unbeatable.
Call someone a "moron" now, tell them they're trash, then go AFK.
