They're worse than WoW, way worse than WoW. I played WoW for 6+ years up until about a month ago. I never had to sift through the garbage like I have to in this game. They're just terrible, terrible people. People that shouldn't even be allowed to communicate with other human beings.I think majority of the rude players are directly from WoW, and are from the group of gamers that expect instant gratification with no effort. These players are irritating for me also, I usually leave group if they bother me too much (trash talking is unacceptable for me imo).
I think WoW has ruined a lot of the MMO community by being so casual friendly and by making gear so easy to get. Players don't realise that games are suppose to be hard and they don't realise that everyone in the party is important to the group.
I said hard, grindy is not hard... Where and when did you put those two together? If by hard, you mean grindy, I disagree. I grind away 10 hours a day at my real job. I want to enjoy and accomplish in a game, otherwise they should pay me.
I can usually tell when I am in a WoW player group and I usually just zone out and do the basics to get through it and be rid of them.
And when their free trial ends, they will go back to playing Evony. Don't worry. They're worse than WoW, way worse than WoW. I played WoW for 6+ years up until about a month ago. Lucky! I played MoP and raiding was godawful. They're worse than WoW, way worse than WoW. I played WoW for 6+ years up until about a month ago. A "FF community", if you mean "FFXI community", didn't magically appear. The game (FFXI and to a lesser extent FFXIV, although that was influenced by FFXI) shaped it. This game doesn't attempt to shape that community. Duty Finder is creating these monsters, like it does in other games. EDIT: Actually, FATEs are just as much to blame. Who learns manners brainlessly spamming AoEs?

Sadly, I am on a JP server, I am still deciding whether I have to deal with a bad latency or a bad community. I really hope it gets better before the world transfer comes out. Japanese are noobs as well and have never treated anyone like that and I like them. This is why I stick to Japanese servers. At least the players are polite and if they don't have anything good to say, they just don't say anything at all. If you want, Masamune is the unofficial Oceanic server for legacy (Tonberry for new) and has plenty of English speakers. And you can get by pretty well with auto-translate with the Japanese players.
You're expecting people to be nice to strangers on the internet? I mean yeah, it would be nice if people actually weren't complete dicks to each other online, but we live in a world where an Indian lady wins Miss America and she gets compared to terrorists and hatred over twitter because of it. So why are you surprised that people in an online video game are being complete assholes for no reason? Don't act like its a FFXIV thing, its a human beings and the internet thing, unfortunately.
Find a group of people to run with that your personality matches up with and play with them. That's why guilds exist.
