In the future it could (read: COULD) be good, but at the moment there isn't any reason. Most things can be climbed over after the collision detection update (given it could still use some work) so I don't see a reason for it.
And with how badly the server needs to optimized, would you really trust a free jump in the current state the servers are in?
maybe you think there's no reason to have jumping
but I even more wonder why you people have to against it. can you tell me why? how it will effect you guys if they add jumping to the game?
If they add jumping:
people who want to jump = happy
people who want to walk up the ledge still can do it = nothing change
unless it's about your hate, hate everything that never been in previous FF series before and don't want to learn something new

Whywheneeditandwhynot SAY IT NOW!
At least not a free-jump but instead of walking over hills, they could probably pull off a FFXIII and just make the jumping based on collision. In the future it could (read: COULD) be good, but at the moment there isn't any reason. I think that would be the best of both worlds. Though it mostly would only serve as a visual effect, nothing more.
Why are you asking people why they dont want it? They've said it plenty of times. In fact, is there really a reason we absolutely need it?
Would you be against if they added collision-based jumping like i mentioned earlier? Its just as tedious as walking over the small cliffs. Just adding the visual effect of jumping would serve the purpose of Free-jump without allowing players to jump around all over town.
For those against that idea and want Free-jump, i seriously have no idea what to think, almost as if you'll be the ones jumping around like monkeys. It happens in every MMORPG that allows it. I wish FFXIV will never become that way.

Need jump ; ;
What MMO are you people playing where people cannot restrain themselves from jumping constantly and needlessly and totally ruining your gaming experience?
I was in WoW last night, in Stormwind, between the AH and the bank. Dozens of players milling about, scores more coming and going. And--get this--all of them, through the grace of some celestial power, managed, somehow, to restrain themselves from tapping the big, gigantic, tantalizing space bar before them to make their toon jump up and down, thus saving the game for everyone. It was no less than miraculous.
I know what you're thinking, "There's no way that this many WoW players for any significant amount of time could restrain themselves from jumping about and utterly laying waste to immersion." But I tell no lies, my friends. This happened.
What's more, I did a few instances later that night. PUGs, using the Dungeon Finder. We tanked and spanked our way through several dungeons without a single--wait for it--moment of immersion broken by a player jumping up and down like he was having a conniption! "Preposterous!" I can already hear you typing this. Alas, no, I am not storytelling. I am relaying a true account of something that indeed happened.
My immersion suffered no detriment due to unnecessary and incessant jumping. It simply didn't happen.
But, surely, this must not be the case for all of you. Some of you must have indeed been wronged--so very, very wronged--by some shady n00b who sought only to rain on your MMO parade by finding that space bar with his barbecue sauce-stained fingers and, yes, tapping it, tapping it, tapping it, forever more. You have my most sincere sympathy. I know there's nothing I can say that can take that memory, and that pain, away. But you need to learn to trust--you need to learn to love. Open your hearts. There are millions--nay, billions--of people waiting to play FFXIV and to use that jump command economically and correctly at just the right moment to provide an unfathomable amount of immersion that can only come from interacting with your environment by moving your body vertically over part of it.
tl;dr: Open your hearts. Let the healing begin. Jump around. Jump around. Get up, get up, and get down.
Exactly.when this happens...
It doesn't feel like playing a 2010 MMORPG

The devs already know it but it's not a priority to determine if it's worth or not.
So let's build non-jumping content and then later they'll come tell us it would cost too much to change everything to add jumping. That same goes for the flying monster that are just hovering the ground. It truly feels like FFXIV is a next gen MMORPG when I see a bird fly hover like that *sarcasm*. What's more, some of the original content is being stripped off to switch and copy other older gen MMO... wow. Our characters were supposed to grow as whole, but not anymore, we'll be classes running around now (and here comes the clones and elitist too!). And so on... I guess I'll stop here, I'm in a bad mood today.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
I never played FF13, but I'll assume that only at certain/obvious points you'll be able ot jump after hitting a button.
Unless they do make the servers more responsive, that's the only way I ever see jumping work.
I do not think we need jumping in the game at this time.
I vote NO on jumping.
