It's out of the question to do even normal dungeons without constantly gaining gil from somewhere else since all combat content (ignoring raiding, raiding is not sustainable by only raiding in any game) is a gil sink and not self sustainable, you need to make sure you do some leves... and... leves.. and then some leves, and crafting leaves are not an option for a lot of players, so you'd have to do.. some random combat leves.
Self repair is quite cheap, but I don't expect everyone to level all crafting professions, and I can't blame them. I wish they'd bring back player repairs somehow.
Anyway, we'll see how things evolve, at lower level on the first class it's irrelevant due to the story and side quests.
Once you hit end game or start leveling the other classes.. twelve forfend us.

It's actually quite easy to make gil in this game. If anything, start up a gathering job and sell what you find on the AH. Or better yet, go gathering to start a crafting class so what ever you do make is little to no cost, and THEN sell that stuff on the AH. There is so much gil to be made in crafting with the added bonus of being able to repair your own gear.
Bots have pushed down the prices of gathering mats to rock bottom. Isn't it like that on Cactuar too? It's actually quite easy to make gil in this game. It depends on the profession, metal and wood have certain tiers that are expensive like elm and iron, food is darn cheap.
The real money lies in crystals and shards, thats what ive seen that bots sell the most and it stays at a healthy price i might say.
I bought 2400 shards for around 50k g, which is a pretty good deal.

I have noticed no issues with gil so far. Lv 50 repair bills are crazy but still have plenty. Are you teleporting everywhere and buying everything you see off the AH?

I feel the problem is people think they shouldn't have to take a break from "endgame" to make gil. I say too bad, the game was not designed for you to endlessy run dungeons and break even or make a little gil. You'll need to take a break to farm mats, do leves, play the market, etc., then get back to whatever it is you wanted to do that's costing you so much gil.
Too many people seem to miss that you can't play a market that has no money. When people dry out of money from repairs, there won't be any buying materials. Sure it works now, and all gil-focused people will do fine focusing on crafting first before it dies, but sooner or later there needs to be somewhere else to get gil drops.

There are thousands of leves being turned in each day, all with some sort of monetary reward. That gil then gets pumped back into the market via the purchasing of materials, gear, etc.Too many people seem to miss that you can't play a market that has no money. So there is plenty of NEW gil coming into the game, you just need to figure out a way to get some of that gil rolling your way. And that part is pretty easy; you just need to put some time into it.
The amount of Leve's being completed on a whole doesn't change the fact that the Gil reward is basic at best, leveling a whole new Character is probably the best source of income at the moment simply due to the non repeatable quests giving out bucket loads of Gil.There are thousands of leves being turned in each day, all with some sort of monetary reward.
