What race are you?

I usually have a hard time deciding which class to play in a game, but in this one you can eventually gain all of them, that's great! But I am having one heck of a time deciding which race to play. Which race did you choose and do you wish you made something else now?

I chose Miqo'te and I've had no wish to change. I wanted to be Elezen at one point but the screenshots of certain characters kept me from choosing that race.

I played Elezen in 1.0, and enjoyed her, but during beta 4 got hooked on a Miqo'te, the emotes made me happy for some reason. I still have my elezen, made a lala on a Japanese server, for when i can't play NA.

I chose Miqo'te. Originally Zophia Costa was a Seeker of the Sun, but after playing for a while, her eyes really got to me so i decided to change her to Keeper of the Moon.

I still keep most of her original look in my Retainer, albeit with a hair colour change and copious amounts of make up. :P

Lallafel was my second choice. I have always been a fan of cute, small and attractive races in MMO's.

I like Hyur. Especially the female Highlander. They can be made to look movie-star gorgeous. (I really like the character creation function.)

Hyur Midlanders can be pretty fetching as well, but they seem to be more cute-gorgeous than the Highlander girls.

If you want perky-cute then go Miqo'te. The females are so darn perky that it ought to be illegal.

It was a difficult choice for me between a female Duskwight and female Highlander. I played the Duskwight during beta but chose the Highlander for launch. I have nothing against the Duskight, but didn't really enjoy towering over everything. The opposite is true of Lafallell for me. Can't stand being tiny or too tall! I don't care for Miqo'te (damn cats are everywhere as it is!). Neutral towards the other races and subspecies.

The real conclusion to any selection, is basically how you feel about a certain race, if their background fits your choice of life style, and what it basically means to you. Everyone is different.

I chose Miqo'te/Keepers Of The Moon, as their background fits my preferred way of life in the world, and reflects who I am as a person.

Other then that. The choice is yours!!

Neko... Er, Cat... er... Miqo'te...

Yeah... I like cats so... there you go.

Though last night I made a second character, one of the elves... whatever they're called. I absolutely hate elves in fantasy, but decided to give one a look here. They do look better once you've got one on your screen running around than they do in the character creator. Shoulders are too wide, neck is too long, and head is too small... but once animated these things are not as bad. I read somewhere a survey of race choices and it seem Neko dominates all other choices by a very wide margin - something like 34% of all characters in this game. In most MMOs, elves end up being over 50% of the entire character base (in WoW, they are between 70-80%)... Here, they are under 10%.

Popularity seems to be:

Neko --> Human --> Gnome --> Elf --> Ogre.
( Miqo'te --> Hyur --> Lalafell --> Elezen --> Roegadyn. )

Though the last two are pretty close.


That surprises me, I expected the small people to be last since they look so childish. And I've never seen a game with something more popular than human. That said humans are also over 30%.

But that Lalafell have fallen down to number 4 in popularity - more like I expected. With the Ogres moving up all the way to the number 2 spot.


The survey is flawed though. Its a poll. Accurate results can be found on the lodestone website by searching characters, but you'd have to do it with a LOT of filters and then tally it all because any result over 1000 comes back with just the first 1000.

I think it depends on how you want to look. Hyurs males are more buff and manly, Elzen are more elegant, Lalafells are more on the adorable side, Miqo'te are more of your typical anime young guy kind of look and Roegadyn look more beastly and rugged. As for the girls, the Hyur seem to be more curvy and lovely, Elzen to me are more mature and elegant looking, the Miqo'te are perky cute anime girls, the Lalafell are super cute and the Roegadyn are well....still pretty beastly and rugged. They all have their ups and downs so it honestly depends on what you want to go for, how it will portray you or your character (if you play in character). I personally picked a lalafell and when I when I want to see above the knee of people and not be sickly adorable, I picked a Miqo'te. They have the best emotes imo. : )
