I support implementing a downvoting feature. Without an upvote:downvote ratio, we have no way to determine if an idea is really what people want.

Sure we do. People won't like a comment they don't like.

I propose that only the opening post can be thumb-downed. So we don't have Thumb Wars® for the discussion itself and we can still show our liking or disliking for the OP idea.

Sure we have a way. If a suggestion is unpopular, it won't have many or any up votes. You can't use an upvote maliciously either, while you easily can use a downvote maliciously.

Ironically, If I could downvote your post and the OP, I would.

No, there are too many immature bastards in this forum that will camp someone they hates just for the sake of it even if its a constructive discussion.

I think adding the "thumbs up" feature already turned the forums into a popularity contest. I kind of feel if people can actively show in numbers how much support they have for a post, they should be able to show how much they disliked a post as well. People are already immature on the forums and they already blindly 'thumbs up' someone just because of how many posts they've made, the subject matter, or who they are. I honestly don't think it's fair to have a like without a dislike. If they can't add a dislike to even it out, then they should probably take out the like and have none of that, only posts.

I wouldn't like it. People use it to harass others. I was pleasantly surprised when they added "like' without "dislike."
"Dislike" can be seen as "your opinion isn't valid."

Besides, it's not a popularity contest, it's giving feedback to SE.

The equivalent of a dislike button is simply not hitting the like button of someones post :P Same with neutrality, if you don't like someones post u simply don't hit like... why do we need more than this? LoL
