How do you rank-up your Chocobo Companion faster?

Hi folks, I could use some help here.

I've asked people in other forums, and looked online on Google but have not found the answer to this dilemma. All I can find is how to open up the chocobo companion... nothing about how to rank them up any faster.

I have a Rank 3 Chocobo named "Chocobro" who's progress bar has not moved in several days it seems... even though I pull him out whenever I farm and do quests... basically multiple times per day.

Anyone have any ideas on how to rank-up Chocobo Companions faster?

I really want him to be Rank 4 so I can get Cure... his regen is crap (16 per tick)...

Kill things, lots of things. Chocobo rank isn't really based on exp earned, just amount of things killed (haven't tested if you have to be getting exp from the enemy or not yet).

Chocobo leveling is 100% based on xp gained.

Nope. You have to kill mobs that give your class xp. It shows your chocobos xp in the chat log under the xp your class gained. It just takes a really long time. Your chocobo doesnt get your rested xp bonus. The only bonus they get is the chain bonus.

Okay now I'm confused... does their progress bar move with exp like a normal "level" or does it move with number of kills?

Normal level. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be possible to get a text display on their level bar, so knowing exact amounts of EXP needed is difficult.

It's clearly quite a lot though.

Yes I'm aware they have the 2nd exp total under mine... but since their "level" is identical to mine... it's really the "Rank" I'm concerned with, not the level... so I wasn't sure if that exp was what moves the progress bar or not.

can't remember where i saw this but i came across something that said the chocobo gained exp proportional to your current level. so that, if you are a lower level he, and you as well, will level up faster then if you were a higher level. no real tests but i have noticed the bar moving a little quicker since i have been using him on my second class vs. my 50 BRD.

I have not seen this. Unless they changed it in the last update and didn't say anything (haven't been using it since I've been spamming praetorium since the last update).
