My character's first name, Alhanelem, is based on that of a main character in FFCC: Ring of Fates, a Square Enix title. However, it is spelled incorrectly because the server name check wouldn't allow "Alhanalem" due to there being a sequence of letters in it which spell 'anal.' Thus, a name of SE's own invention is blocked by it's own game's name filter on the basis of containing a swear word (which most anybody wouldn't even notice). However, many other names using normal, legitimate, non-swear words get blocked for similar reasons, and even the space between first and last name is ignored for this purpose- If, for example, I created a first name ending in "-an" and a last name beginning with "Al" it would block this too, even if neither the first name or last name are swear words or in any way resemble them.
No person in their right mind is going to be offended by names that fall under these situations. I respectfully request that SE reevaluate the name curse filter such that all generally acceptable in modern society words are allowed.
I have had a conversation with a GM on this subject in game, he himself said he didn't see any problems with my desired name, however, he couldn't help me because the only thing he could do is force me to change my name myself (which would be a stretch of the policy if nobody complained about my name, which nobody has)- the GMs can't change your name to something specific.
I did request that he forward the feedback on the issue, but the name filter really takes censorship too far. I understand SE doesn't want to have characters running around with names like "F*** You" and such, but most of the names blocked by the filter aren't anything like that.
