Sweet. "Kill x mob quests" just got a whole new meaning. Now "kill x mobs" is replaced by "Kill 4982349827492 beastmen".I think those new camps are for the new Hamlet Defence system that's coming. They said they were making new camps for it. I think it will be like Campaign from FFXI where we fight for the territory, when it's in our control we have our camp on it, when the beastmen have it then it will be there camp.
That's how I interpreted it too. Imagine if beastmen came from there tribes to these little encampments and had a fight, and we had to help fend them off. They did say they wanted roaming beastmen in that list from Letter From the Producer III.
It was the same in FFXI you had a little fort in most cases and the beastmen would come and try and take it you would fight them off before they got to the camp. The camp would have a kind of HP and the if the beastmen got through they would attack the camp and when it's bar became empty they would take control. Same worked the other way around for players to take the beastmen camps.
You can't have "level up" quets in this game. Those are in 1 character 1 class games. These hubs will prob be similar to the mini locations where you do quests at. Kinda like selbina. Or like those quests in campaign. They just adding more places to add more quest to liven up the game.
I'd agree with Kilta. Unless they do something crazily drastic and remove the ability to level anything but one single class, most of the content is going to have to be repeatable - at least to some extent. I haven't played Final Fantasy XI, but I like the sound of defending against the enemy with the chance to 'lose out', be it Beast tribes or Garleans or the Star Marmot Army.
The short lived Tabula Rasa had bases you defended against the enemy alongside other players, and that was probably the best thing about it - working together towards a common goal, without the need to worry about organisation *too* much, but with a nice community building aspect about it.
I don't understand why we can't lvl up with quests in this game? Imo those quest hubs will be the same as in other games. You do a quest.. kill 10 rats, you get 500 exp. Rinse and repeat > move to the next quest hub. At least that's what I think it will be and everyone will be disappointed by that. The thing is nobody will do those if they will give some useless rewards, then their whole work would be wasted.
Their direction is clearly to make this game like every other MMO on the market, hopefully I'm completely wrong in every way possible, we shall see.
Why? You can go play rift, a much better game at doing that.
