Paladin is better due to the fact that the mitigation that they possess scales with enemy damage as well as being persisting effects.
Warrior on the otherhand has scales with its own damage and can't produce enough self healing quick enough to really cover the dmg it receives during a spike. Its always harder to heal a warrior and there are no fights in which a warrior is a requirement or atleast preferred.
As of right now PLD is the better Tank, at least for Coil of Bahamut.
From my understanding (I am not quite there yet) that around turns 4 and 5 there is a ton of tank damage (unmitigated around 8K) and only a Paladin can mitigate the damage efficiently right now.
Either the Warrior will need a buff, or Coil Damage will need to be less at those turns for a warrior tank to be viable in that dungeon.
My main is a bard, but I am in the process of leveling my Marauder/Warrior. From what I can tell, damage is a bit more spiky on them.
Yeah, the math just adds as such that the PLD's innate 20% mitigation (well, not innate, it's Shield Oath) gives them the upper hand. It has been discussed in several other of these forum threads. People are calling for a fix, as there is nothing that a Warrior is apparently needed for currently. I'm not at end-game yet, so I can't say personally, but the over-all consensus is that Warriors are second class citizens in all raiding or big-target events. At least according to public opinion.
They look way sweeter though. After I get PLD up to 50 and get some reasonable gear I will be leveling a WAR to check it out.
pld is better than war in every endgame dungeon.
and so much easier and safer.
Probably too early to call.
And this sort of thing happens over and over in every MMO - opinions flipping every time the winds blow.
Chances are it really comes down to player skill and comfort in the given class, just like it has with every other MMO during moments when the community would try to claim one or the other was best.
With the game live for only a few weeks, anyone who is sure it is Paladin is calling this way sooner than they should be. Its not 1.0 - so the experience there is not entirely reflective for here, and anyone who's leveled to 50 in 2.0 simply doesn't yet have enough experience to say with authority.

Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war - Ras Tafari.
What is math?Probably too early to call.

I personally am leveling the Warrior as my tank in the hopes that they will be buffed at some point to be able to efficiently MT all the dungeons. From my (very limited albeit) tanking experience in FFXIV as a warrior, the warrior relies on their self healing quite a bit. Their health may bounce much more than PLD, and many people complain of their health rubberbanding too much, but they don't take into account their self heals at all.
At low levels the heals are pretty small, but from what I am reading, based on some abilities, your damage, your gear, etc, the self heals are pretty significant at max.
As always I think you should play the class you feel most comfortable in. I love the attack style of the warrior, so that's the route I went.
no its not, playskill dont change anything.Probably too early to call.

i havent done any dungeon beyond titan.
pug titan dont even want war, have you seen any pug looking for war to tank for titan? i have seen none.
in AK and CM, pld is wayyy easier and safer to play, especially in DF with inexperienced players.
war is only wanted for garuda as OT, still pld could do the job with no problem, just a little less dps.
and yes, you are right, a 5m sized patch could change everything, but right now, pld is way better than war in every way.
