    Where to quest?

    WHERE TO QUEST?
There are 3 main cities in this game Ul’duth, Gridania, and Lima Limosa form the basis for quest hubs. Each of the 3 main areas has quests for all levels. A player can follow the level progression of any individual quest hub or players can jump between the hubs as the story quest will often do.
There are many different way for players to gain xp, gil, certs, and items. I can write another whole article on grand companies and certs but let’s pretend you know what they are and understand that you kind of want them.

FATES – These are by far the most popular way of leveling in the game. They are essentially dynamic quests that pop up in the world. Many players just ride from one fate to the next especially at the higher levels. These quests have good xp rewards, good certificate rewards, but poor gil rewards.

Story Line Quests – Someone once told me that this game is a tutorial up until level 50. The way the main storyline is laid out I can see why he felt that way. Every aspect of the game is unlocked by following this quest line. You cannot get a mount; go in a dungeon or anything else without unlocking it from this quest line first. These quests reward good xp , decent gil and good items.

Class quests - Do stop back to check with your class leader every 5 levels or so and pick up the quests specific to the class you are playing. Remember; once you complete a regular quest it’s completed for any class you switch to later so take advantage of class specific quests. These rewards are generally higher than regular quests.

Regular Quests - These quests are your standard fare of side quests which can be found in abundance in every city, town, and off the side of the road cart stand in the game. They offer moderate xp and decent Gil. Remember these quests can only be completed once so save some for other classes you plan on leveling.

Hunting Log - These are lists or creatures that you have been contracted to kill a certain number of. These are important to complete for the progression of your character at endgame and they also provide very high xp rewards particularly at low levels. There will also be separate hunting logs from your Grand Company which rather than high xp rewards will offer high cert rewards. These logs are a requirement to advance in many instances. Each log covers a 10 level spectrum so when you get close to your next decade of levels make sure your logs are ready for the upgrade as well.

Levequest - These are single player location centric quests. Let me explain, you speak to the levemete and obtain the quests. You go to the red circle on your map for that quest. Once there you open up your journal, select that quest and click initiate. This starts the leve. Generally you kill stuff on a timer but there are other objectives. You can only do levequests as long as you have more allowances to run them. You gain 3 allowances per day and they will stack up to 99 allowances. There are battle levequests, grand company leves that reward certs, gathering leves for gatherers, and crafting leves.

GuildHests – This is the first of the 3 types of quests that can be queued for in the Duty Finder. These offer a onetime bonus of a huge amount of xp and gil. They can be repeated but after the first time it’s about 20% of the rewards of the first time. These are unlocked in 5 level increments and completing the first one will unlock a second one for each 5 level increment. These are essentially training missions where different aspects of group combat are introduced.

Dungeons – 4 or 8 player versions of instanced group combat. Battle your way past trash mobs and sub bosses to slay a final boss in each dungeon. You get a 10,000 xp bonus for completing the dungeon with a new player in the group and a normal stipend of xp for completion regardless. These are repeatable, a fantastic source of items and there are hard mode versions for max level characters.

Trials – These are general roadblocks that must be completed in order to progress into new content at a few points in the game. The first of which is to defeat the fire primal Ifrit at level 20.

RAIDS – These have not been implemented in the game but the game is slated to bring its first 24 man raid into play with the first major content patch.
