Subscription help, greatly appreciated

So, I am coming to this game with no prior knowledge of any square enix online games,
just curious how buying game time works. I am coming from playing wow, and I know I simply buy my 30 days once my current time is almost up. I am wondering if it works similar to that here, or if my only option is to auto renew? I don't love the idea of a recurring fee, incase I am not in the mood that month or am low on funds....Any one feel like explaining the basics of paying for game time to me? Thanks!

u can buy game cards to renew ur subscriptions also so no need for recurring fees etc etc ;3
