Free Company + Grand Company Ties

Okay so my Free Company has been <Allied> Rank with the Maelstrom Grand Company for a while now. We're capped till the next patch. So my question is - Are there any incentives to try leveling other Grand Companies with the Free Company?

I may have missed an announcement but, for example, if I switch my alignment to the Ul'da Grand Company and try to switch back to the Maelstrom will my Free Company's rank with Maelstrom be reset or will it resume with the Allied rank?

I haven't messed with it yet so before I get an angry mob of members because we need to earn back our bonus buffs I figured I'd ask if anyone has tried breaking this yet?

I'd like to know aswell. Are we supposed to raise every GC but only keep one allied or does it actually reset to zero!?

EDIT:

We changed ours from Allied Twin Adder into Maelstorm.
Our Twin Adder is still "ALLIED" I'm not sure if it goes lower while we gain in Maelstorm..

But no follow ups. So I guess the question now is does your existing rank go down if you attempt to level up another GC?
