New Job System Concerns

This has probably been raised before, I can't see why it wouldn't have been.. but having come from FFXI (after a 5 year break) into FFXIV ARR.. I can't help but be a little skeptical about the job system.

I get that "jobs" are specialisations of classes.. and for the most part thats fine, but firstly I don't see anyone running around as a THM50 or LNC50, why would they? But my main problem is for when new jobs become available:

I am currently levelling Scholar as my main, it is at 44 atm.. That means my SMN is also at 44 and therefore I don't get to experience levelling that job..

What if they made a Ranger specialsation for ARC but you already have BRD50 will you be happy with that?

I dunno, maybe its all happening at end game and the levelling is just an inconvenience but I just think it'd be a nice thing to take a job from 1-50/60/70 just like in FFXI

I don't mind that the system is different than FFXI, but I will be disappointed when they release a new job, and its automatically level 50 (minus the job quests you'll have to go through) because the primary class for that job is 50. I hope SE has plans to address this when the time comes.

I agree in a lot of what you said. I took arcanist to 50 as a SMN, but I haven't touch SCH because, well, I don't know how to play with it.

the job will be automatically 50 but you might need to gear it again.. take SMN and SCH for example, SMN gear has INT on it, SCH has mind. so you have both @50 but you have to do end game with both to gear them properly.

to level from 1-50 we will get new classes so dont worry SE has a bag full of classes/jobs to choose from and have us leveling for a while.

Summoner is really an add on to arcanist, I dont know what the value is in making you level it again when it is basically the same class. You also lose a lot of capabilities (aero is better than ruin by pure DPS and the fact that it's instant) and at least pre 40 there is no real reason to equip the summoner token. I'd say that is the biggest problem.

BRD is the same way. The TP song is a dps loss and you lose protect and cure. Rain of arrows at 45 has its use I suppose but in general the BRD token is not that useful solo.

When they flesh out the jobs I would view it as a way to switch role (dps/support/tank/heal/etc) to fit what you have available to run a dungeon.

When i first heard the job system, i was interested in leveling the job from 1 to 50, but now i am trying to level additional classes, and it's shown me that it would be hell to have to fate grind those up, since almost all quests are gone now for me. There are job quests you'd need to do, and those scale you, along with dungeons, where you can get a hang of the new job. I wish the guildhests gave better rewards, it would be a nice place to practice with the new job/class, but it's paltry at this point.

Don't forget too that Yoshi has mentioned there will be "advanced jobs", that require more jobs or classes than now.

This is why they told everyone about the limited number of queses before launch. The point is managing quests so that you dont blow them on one class. Some people didn't listen or didn't care. Now they have to grind the other classes.

all good points youve all raised, thanks.. i am still a little uncomfortable with it.. but it is nice to be able to switch to SMN for someting different.. if SCH wasnt so darn amazing though i might spend more time on SMN lol

It's not a huge deal because jobs are just a specialization of the original class. The learning curve shouldn't be too high to figure out how to use your job only abilities as you played the base class for 50 levels and should have an understanding of how the class plays at its core.
