Chocobo Questions..

Obtained chocobo whistle, named him and am still not able to summon? I have completed my little chocobo quest and my feisty chocobo quest and wont let me mount at all? Do i need to rank the little guy up before I am able to ride or how does this work?

The Chocobo Mount is actually received from completing the quest through a Grand Company which I believe is lvl 20. Then you'll need to get roughly 2000 GC Seals by participating in Fates, Leve's, and provision quests to ear those seals. Then you can purchase what you need to complete the process.

Once you do all that you'll go into the Actions Tab on the bottom of your screen. Go to mounts, and then you can drag the chocobo icon into one of your hotbars.

If he's already named his Chocobo then he's done all that. You can't name him until you turn in the 2000 seals and finish the quest.

Make sure you go into your inventory and find the Chocobo Whistle. "Use" it. This will give you the ability to call him. From there you can call him either under Actions or Mounts in your menu. That will allow you to ride him. It will be the same with Barding when you get those, as well as with Minions. To call/use them you must first find them in your inventory and select "Use". That will then allow you to call the Minion, or change your Chocobo Barding, as the case may be.

Now, as for fighting with him, I don't know if you can do that right away. You probably can, but since you can't level him up until level 30 I usually just wait till then and not waste the greens. At level 30 Ducette in Camp Tranquil will start the quest that allows you to level your Chocobo.

i am having similar problem. i have already done the quest for it, and it also allw me to change the name for the chocobo. but i dont see any whistle in my inventory and i cant summon it. and when i talk to the flames npc to obtain the new chocobo issurance item he dont hav that in options. no clue whats up. if anyone kno anything please do share

You definitely SHOULD have a Chocobo Whistle in your inventory once you complete the cutscene and name your bird. If you really haven't and you're SURE the bird isn't listed in the MOUNTS section of your Actions and Traits dialog then you'll need to open a ticket as something must have glitched at the point the game should have given you the whistle.

Does it show up under the "Mounts" section of your Actions/Traits window? Are you trying to summon it and getting an error, or not able to summon it because the chocobo isn't available under "Mounts"?

Its under companions... And you'll need ghysal greens to summon your chocobo.
I believe the quest for it is in the north shroud at the stables. Ghysal greens are found at one location in each city but I usually stock up when I'm in bent branch. The mender merchant has them.

There's two different versions of summoning a chocobo, and since the OP mentioned both chocobo quests, it's a little unclear which he's talking about, but since he included "let me mount" and "before I am able to ride", I think he's referring to summoning it as a mount rather than as a battle companion. The ghysal greens are only needed for the later.

Mount
The ability to ride a chocobo (and, although the in-game help doesn't mention it, to ride any other mounts you may have) is unlocked by the level 20 quest "My Little Chocobo". This is the one that has you collect 2,000 Grand Company seals and trade them in for a Chocobo Issuance. You give the issuance to the local Chocobokeep, he presents you with a chocobo and asks you to name it, and then you talk to him again to pick up your reward - a Chocobo Whistle. The Chocobo Whistle is a single-use item that disappears from your inventory when you first use it, but doing so places "Company Chocobo" as an available action under the Mounts section of the Actions and Traits window. From there you can add that action to a hotbar and use it to summon or dismiss your chocobo mount (provided you're in an area that allows mounts).

Battle Companion
The ability to have your chocobo fight alongside you is unlocked by the level 30 quest "My Feisty Little Chocobo" (located at Camp Tranquil in the South Shroud). It's actually unlocked during the quest rather than when you complete it (since the quest itself has you call your chocobo and fight with him). To summon your chocobo as a battle companion requires ghysal greens. You'll get a first bunch of greens during the quest, and then more can be bought in any of the three main cities.

It's also while you have him out as a battle companion that your chocobo can level up and gain skill points that you can spend to have your chocobo learn additional skills. This configuration is set up in the Companion window.
