I always hide capes anyways. Nothing more than unnecessary stat items, much like "shoulder armor". I much prefer the fact that shoulder armor is built into the chest.

I don't feel either way about this to be honest. I would love 'outer' and 'inner' layers in an MMO someday though.
So light armor could wear a shirt and pants on the inner layer with a robe on the outer layer and heavy armor could wear padding that would show through at the joints and neck for instance.

Well maybe they will release Blue Mage and you will get the traditional AF cape and mask like in FFV!

Personally I'm happy they don't have capes.. I can't imagine XI having them.. Just not a fantasy feeling to me for some reason

Unless I misremember grossly, XI *did* have capes (the "back" slot). You never saw them equipped on your character, but they had them.
