    traumatic healing experiences...

have you ever had one? ever since i failed horribly at healing the first boss of aurum vale as sch i'm afraid to heal 4 man dungeons that arent something easy like dzaemel darkhold. when its only the tank/s taking damage i'm fine but when a large amount of healing needs to be given to multiple people i cant decide what to do first and my mind locks up. a friend thats whm told me they have the same problem so i think having me as his backup healer helps him a lot.

    1) Learn the fight, knowing when damage is unavoidable is key to prepare
    2) Focus ST heals on the tank, the party should usually be fine using regens, aoe and pet st healing. Unless they screwed up really bad and are prone to screw up again within the next few seconds, or a big aoe is coming in the next few seconds.
    3) If you have a whm/sch combo, the sch should keep focus on the tank, with their pet and the whm topping up the party after an aoe. The SCH should prepare for the aoe by using succor and sacred ground.
    4) Consider swiftcast at 50 a requirement.

Anything beyond that is usually due to dps screwing up and being where they should not be, in which case, let them die if you can't spare the GCD. Tank and yourself are always main priority and it's safer to swiftcast res a dps when you're caught up rather than deciding if you should heal a dps when the tank is below 50%.

For any new dungeons/bosses you should watch videos on the fight and learn the mechanics beforehand. Going in blind as a healer is poor judgement that will causes unneeded wipes. Knowing the mechanics in and out are more important for the healer and tank, as a screw up on either end, usually results in a wipe.

I think aurum vale makes every healer doubt their capacity
Cleared it once, never going back there again

I don't know if WHM is better equipped for it but i never found that boss that difficult once it was explained to me what to do. People just need to know which fruit is theirs. To only use their own fruit and to do it at 3 stacks. I just throw regen down and then spread out some cures as needed. As for order of cures it's tank then everyone else. Does Tank need a heal? If yes heal the tank. If everyone else does then heal tank then the weaker ones then the stronger ones. Clothies will die faster so keep them up.

Last boss in AV is a bit more of a stretch with the adds and if you have a tank who refuses to dodge the bad breath attack but again WHM gets a bit of an easier time since they can help on adds with Holy. Had a few wipes on the last boss before bringing the damn thing down.

As for healing trauma lately i've been throwing my keyboard at the wall over Titan HM. So much i need to dodge out the way of or it kills me while he beats on the tank so hard they are at 25% health in seconds so getting stressed at dodging while trying to find room to heal the tank and others.

Anyone who plays MMOs will inevitably be the cause of wiping their group, especially as a healer. It just comes with the territory. You can take solace in the fact that eventually, you'll probably be the cause of 23 other people dying - probably repeatedly too! So failing in a 4 man isn't a big deal.

First boss in AV isn't scholar friendly but it's manageable if your group is doing what it's supposed to. Just put your fairy in a central location (not too close to boss) and heal her as well. When the dots on fairy are too much to keep up with swiftcast, resummon, and send her back in.

I've had groups that didn't do that fight, and others, correctly which admittedly makes me feel like a bad healer if I can't keep up with the extra damage. 12 years playing healers and I still have to remind myself that you can't cover for other peoples' mistakes all of the time. It feels great when you can but not all of the boss mechanics in this game are forgiving.

Places like AV are where you get better at healing so I don't let the bad experiences keep me away.

Did you have to go see a psychiatrist after this "traumatic" experience?

I forget what the level 32 dungeon is called, but i decided to heal it on my Scholar.

It was a nightmare. I realized very quickly that i have no real way of healing the group other than pre shielding and individual target.
My pet suddenly decides that she doesnt wanna heal. I try and place her closer to the tank but she has beans for defense and aggros quite a bit.

But i was doing good, watching my MP (the warrior was taking a crap ton of damage for some reason and i constantly had to spam the shield heal and psy back to back to keep him up)

We got to the last boss that spits acid and heals himself. Im trying to throw miasma to assist with the heal debuff but the tanks HP kept dropping extremely quickly. I dont think he was dodging aoes and kept running through the acid but i dont know how tanks are in this game (havent made one). And of course there was the monk and bard there who take residual damage (though they were doing pretty good, my pet healed them cuz they stayed fairly close to me). But i dunno, the tank started taking way too much damage for me to heal + keep my mp because i have to use adlo more than i feel i should have needed to. And my pet just eventually said "f this"

And one thing i find alarming is that my pet prioritize me over everyone else (or more than likely the AI scans whomever is closer and see if they need a heal, then move on). Im flattered but i would prefer her to have a focus heal ability. But i couldnt move her closer because, again, she has beans for defense.

I guess i still need more practice, but now im afraid of healing on scholar, since i never really had such a problem with WHM.
