notorious monsters. are realy challenging but the probleme now all monster are open targetSome of my favorite times from XI were farming notorious monsters. Sometimes alone, sometimes not.
Killing mobs in an area and then finally seeing the named version of them appear. Or running through a zone and seeing a special mob "up", really added a feel of "adventure" and a unique sense of exploration to the game, at least imo.
That is all..., is hard to have something challenging in ff14 because all target are open
I would love to see some sort of hidden monster content in this game that generated a random loot or gear drop. They could be so uncommon that farming them would be a waste of time, as far as I'm concerned, but such a little Easter egg of an event would be a nice touch to a game that I think lacks some motivation to hunt and explore in the overworld once quests start slowing down and the hunting logs get depleted. I mean, I don't hate Fates. Some of them are challenging, especially when you get to them before a lot of people start logging on and they turn into a lag-ridden chore.
Anyway, want to fight a boss ladybug that will wreck your day? Maybe fulfill some sort of crazy requirements and watch it spawn before your eyes. I don't know what implementation would be, but I certainly think it would be a lot of fun to run across one.
As much as I wouldn't mind NM's again....blame RMT for ruining that pleasure...seriously. Does anyone remember back in RMT days of FFXI where there'd be an RMT standing on every spawn point? Unless the gear was r/e I guess...

yes and it sucked, but it did make snagging it away from them and making buttloads of cash from it pretty intense. I think how it was done in 1.0 was pretty good. We wanted it then and it worked out, and even during 2.0 beta people were clamoring for it (they had a thread with well over 2.5k likes that were for it).
NMs were those things that made you sweat a little, your heart was pounding to get the tag on it, and fighting it to see if you would get that rare drop. Most of the time it ended with disappointment, but when you did get that tag and that rare drop not every schmuck was running around with, that was worth loads of gil....oh boy was it such a good feeling. I cant tell you how many times i unintentionally did a little fist pump when i got something great or when my LS would even just tag the HNM. Honestly that was the best part of the old XI NMs....the rush.
and like z3 said...this game needs more open world content in general that isnt people zerging FATEs. Too much of stuff that isnt just leveling related is instanced.
Would love to see it added to the game. Variation is never ever a bad thing, some people might think FATEs are enough, but a lot of us don't. There are so many many ways of having NMs in the game without any of the EXTREMELY FEW issues that were actually present with them in XI.
I too would like to see this. I would like to see more open world free-for-all content in general... mobs that must be claimed when attacked, not necessarily Fates where I can 'assist' in taking it down and probably never take a hit in the process.
I was glad that Fates were added, but they don't seem to be handled right... too easy with a large number of players. Each Fate should limit the number of people who can participate, or something...
I have to disagree. As it is now, we do have rare spawn monsters. I have encountered several of them. Spawning them as a FATE gives everyone the ability to participate. Do you remember the terrible times we had with NM's in 11? If you were a normal player there was almost no way to even get a chance at one. There would be gil sellers running programs that could tap monsters before they would even spawn on your screen because they were closer to the servers in Japan and had lower ping times. Moving the NM gear to BOE helped some, but it was still an issue of who had the better ping times. You could waste hours trying to track down rare spawns only to pretty much have 0 chance of getting a drop.
I don't want to go back to the times when you could waste hours of game play trying to find spawns and your latency dictated if you could even try to fight a NM. The FATE mechanism is fine.
They need to make mob drops worth something before they add NM's back... Then add NM's back... IMO it's ridiculous that I can farm stuff off level 50 mobs and it npc's for 1 gil....
