    Need Hydra Tips - Warrior

    Fellow Warriors,

Can any of you that have tanked Hydra for the relic quest provide any tips on a proper way to beat him. I'm tanking him with my FC and honestly im starting to feel like a huge burden to them as a warrior. The Tri move he casts is hitting me for 3.5-4k damage its just to fast. Yes they can heal me and keep me going but it really feels like the entire team is having to play at a 0 mistake level and im holding em back. I have 6.2k hps, wearing AK armor mostly with the relic weapon and some darklight jewelry in regards to gear.

I'm really getting discouraged and thinking of leveling paladin (which I hate, and no offense to pally's they just feel very boring to play I got one to 38 before switching servers and going warrior)So if anyone has any tips for me I would greatly appreciate any help. And if I need darklight for that fight let me know as well I don't mind grinding it out for my FC, I just want to be useful.

you arent supposed to get hit by tri move, just keep run around him (circling him) because tri attack is a frontal cone attack with under 0,5 sec casting time (or less)

but yeah, if you really want to roll paladin for end game content like bahamut coil, do it

This is from a healer perspective, but when I downed hydra, we were a pug group with a warrior tank and it only took us 4-5 attempts, I was surprised.

Do you have a scholar in your group? that would help a lot, I healed on my WHM with a SCH heal buddy, and while there were some scary moments, the scholar's bubbles, mixed with my "Oh SHI~" heals made the large hits he took from Tri manageable, most of our wipes actually came from dps getting hit by avoidable bad stuff so we weren't focused on the tank, and the 2nd wipe I was a baddie and got hit by the ring while trying to get range on tank for heals.

Yes a paladin would have been easier to heal, but as a warrior you can do it, you'll just need to do what you can to dodge breaths, and try not to pull him around too much so your healers don't lose range, I made a lot of use of my swiftcast to heal the tank while running to him.

The mechanic to hydra is for both tanks to eat tri-attack because the dmg is split between everyone it hits (IE. if it hits for 5k it'll hit each tank for 2.5k). When I did it we 1 shot it.

Yea I did it with a pug and we had both tanks stand in front of him, we one shot him - it was really easy. I just used inner beast every time he used that attack... Very little stress on the healers.

Yep, don't get disheartened if you're trying to solo tank it. The fight is NOT designed for a solo tank. You can sort of get by it by spinning around him constantly to avoid the cast but this isnt really intended mechanics I think (not to say it isnt viable of course). Fact is - if you eat the Triumvirate and you're a solo tank then you're most likely to die unless you have cooldowns up.

Triumvirate was designed to split damage evenly amongst all targets it hits. The intention is that you always have it hit more than one target. Any strategy that involves using only a single tank is either based on a hugely overgeared tank, an insanely competant/skilled healer team with good timing and shields, or the spin-around-him method which almost feels like an exploit.

Bring a second tank. Stand on top of each other (marking a mark on each tank helps). Make sure you arrange a direction to kite him in if you need to move him from fire patches. Above all, stay 100% of the time next to your tanking buddy. If a tank dies, a couple of melee dps should stand next to you to split the triunmvirate in 3 until the tank is ressed.

Eating a constant 4k hit is going to make any tank a nightmare to heal. But two tanks standing next to each other eating 2k hits each is very very doable. It's certainly nothing to do with warriors being ineffectual.

Yeah, wow the guide I watched made no mention of splitting that attack across tanks, I feel a lot better about my healing ability now.

We pugged it with a single warrior tank, that didn't seem overly geared.
