As a tank I use standard camera and want S to packpedal. If I want to go forward behind me, I use turn around. I use my mouse to move the camera so I can turn around with the mouse and standard camera in an instant.
I find that if I turn on legacy camera I end up running backwards because I was faced in that direction when I wanted to go the other way and I run off platforms and crap. It's also easier to position a boss accurately via back pedaling, where as not backpedaling might move the boss to far or cause him ti glitch and practically get on top of me (e.g. lost boss in AK)
This is why i'm just asking it as an option, not a gameplay norm. I personally have no use for backpedaling, but I see how some can like it like say ranged classes. I enjoy the lock on feature in this game, it has a very kingdom hearts feel, but unlike kingdom hearts you are forced to backpedal unless you break the lock which gets tedius. A simple option to enable and disable backpedaling while in lock on mode would just be a nice feature to see. As a monk if i'm ever backing up, the only reason I have is honestly to avoid an aoe attack. Other than that I want to strafe around and hit all my positional attacks.
In videos I watch of other players I have never seen someone utilize the actual feature. Some aren't even aware it exists, but it makes Lancer and Monk more fun, at least for me personally.

Would be helpful to just make backtracking speed as fast as forward speed while lock on.
That way you can back off from AOE while locked on target and still facing it, I like to use lock on being drg so I can get flank/back easier, but yeah, if I dont have my stuns ready or Im in middle of animation of another attack or dont react fast enough to unlock and run, or frigging elusive jump would get me into a group of aggro mobs, THEN I might get hit, but I dont like being hit, so It would be helpful to have an easier way to use lock and still being able to RUN behind you.
While we're on this boat, wold be nice to lock movement but not camera, so you can rotate camera and search for another targets (ads and stuff)
anyway, more options for controls in general would be nice, everyone adapts diferent to the control schemes anyway
This is one of the reasons I don't use lock on much.
The other being the camera for bigger enemies, it goes up and I can't see the ground at all. Maybe it's because I am a Lalafell?
The only times where I ever find the "Lock on" feature useful is when I actualy want to backpedal... But I'm all for having an extra check box option to disable that as well for thoose who want too, I mean why not have more options, that way everyone can have their way?

I believe a lot of posters in this thread are reading the title and then posting a reply without context. The Op is NOT asking to have backpeddling disabled completely, they are talking about the fact you move backwards at a reduced speed, preventing you escaping AoE's and thus making lock-on more of a hazard than a help.
The OP suggests that in lock on mode moving away from the enemy causes your character to turn and run away at full speed, instead of backpeddling slowly.
