A suggestion for cutting down on RMT spam

Add an option after right-clicking on a spammer's name to 'report and blacklist.'

If enough people do this, say, 5, or 10, or 20, the user loses all /shout privileges.

To avoid abuse, if a GM reviews the account and finds that the player was being griefed, the people that reported them will lose reporting privileges for a set period of time.

    What do you guys think?

You could make it nearly impossible to abuse- If 1 person gets on more than 100 people's blacklist in a 24 hour period, they are banned until investigated. They are either RMT or deserve it anyway.

I'm pretty sure people will abuse this so I would say no. I would like to see a "Blacklist" button when right-clicking a name in chat though, or separate the buttons to have both options.

Although generally I would agree, but there could be cases where a FC could intentionally encourage players to blacklist someone to get them banned in such a manner, have to be careful people don't abuse these kinds of things.

What about the less severe loss of /shouting ability?

Sure, there might be a rogue FC who somehow manages to get all their members to grief someone, but they could just lose those privileges after GM review. Besides, my experience with the community has been all around great apart from the duty finder.

The only solution to dealing with the RMT is for GMs to really step up, but I understand even that can be difficult. Sorry to say but there should be no player driven banning of RMT, as any measure could risk for abuse.

Free company or not, it would be difficult to get 100+ people to agree to blacklist someone that isn't bothering them.

    Well you could do steps.

    1) If a person shouts more than 10 times per minute they are excluded from the chat channel until further investigation.
    2) If key words such as Gil, buy, sale, $, £ are found in the text it will be flagged for investigation.
    3) If person is found to be selling gold they are banned.

    Easy.

Edit:- Granted this could cause RMT to change the way they spam (less often) and what they say in messages, but its a start at least.

Adding a feature allowing us, after a right click on the chat name, to report someone as a spammer.
After X reports like this, the character is notified that he as been considered as a spammer and won't be able to shout anymore.
The X is important because some people may use this functionality to block people for fun ...

Otherwise there is a more restrictive solution which is to limit the number of messages, like in GW2, which is very effective but really painful in the other hand.

I guess that SE has anticipated it and will provide us a viable solution

sounds good in theory, in practice, however the "investigation queue" would be too long and too less staff to actually investigate things manually. In the time it would get investigated, those RMT spammers would have probably cycled trough several newly hacked accounts. You did not think they buy accounts for spamming, did you?
All in all gamers are to blame in the first place, because they are who create market for these RMT. You should start reporting you friends who are buying gil/leveling services etc.
