What is the difference between Legacy and normal servers?

There was a difference between the two for like 5 days but now you wouldnt be able to tell the two apart. People on new servers already have multiple 50s and
millions of gil...but ya legacy servers are just where they stick us 1.0 degenerates lol no real benefit at this point unless you have friends on one.

The legacy servers aren't the old servers. SE changed up the server architecture for ARR, so the old servers wouldn't work anyway. the legacy servers are where all the characters transferred from 1.0 are. Right now, characters from 1.0 aren't allowed to be on the normal servers (though it is possible to create a new character on a legacy server, iirc). SE is planning to allow 1.0 characters to be transferred out of legacy servers in a few months. Otherwise, they're the same as the regular servers.

Actually no, they are not the old 1.XX servers. Those servers were shutdown when they shutdown 1.23 for good. All servers are new for FFXIV:ARR.

A Legacy server is just a server that host all 1.0 characters both legacy and non-legacy. They aren't allowed to transfer over to "new player" servers until a later date. SE did this to separate people who so wished to be basically. I guess "giving" new people a fair advantage if they wanted to.

The only benefit I suppose from playing on a Legacy server is playing with friends who had a 1.XX character. It's the main reason I went to Hyperion to play with all my old FFXI friends, since I never played 1.0.

The only difference is that the 1.0 characters couldn't be transfered to non-legacy servers. Both server types have both new and 1.0 players as both new and 1.0 players are able to create new characters on all servers.
