Classes/ Job Question

Ok, so thanks in advance for whatever answers I may get. I am a new player to FFXIV and MMO's in general. But I was wondering about the class system in the game, specifically skills and actions across the different classes. Is it possible for me to be a Gladiator, but know the blizzard and fire spells, having leveled up that class to a certain level? And if I wanted to become a specialized Job, say a Paladin, or a Monk, is it possible for me to know miscellaneous spells such as those too? I am confused on what you can and can't do.

Each class has specified abilities that are "Cross-Class" abilities, they're listed on the abilities themselves.
