Dark Devices - Phase 1 Exploit

Dark Devices is a four stage L:49 FATE that spawns in Northern Thanalan. The first phase is poorly designed, allowing players to farm infinitely spawning mobs while completely ignoring the target mobs that spawn near the mine entrance. What results is approximately 14:30 of people spamming AOE and doing nothing else in order to earn anywhere from 10,000 to 200,000 XP depending on the quality (and luck) of their group.

Any players who attempt to complete the FATE as intended (read: killing Lambs of Dalamud) in a timely manner receive the ire of those exploiting the event, including harassment through tells, shout, and false reports accusing players of botting (amusing since standing in one spot and spamming AOEs is more bot-like behavior than doing a FATE as intended) or RMT spamming.

This is an XP and quality of life exploit on par with "speed runs" of certain L:50 instances and needs to be fixed ASAP. FATEs should encourage players to complete the objectives, but this FATE currently encourages players to ignore the objectives until the last minute.

This needs to be changed so that the mobs only spawn near the target mobs, or that the target mobs charge into the fight as soon as the non-target mobs are engaged. That way this fate can progress as intended. The other three phases of the fate are working as intended.

Except they went out of their way to stop people from doing exactly that. Lolol at anyone who honestly thinks that FATE is working as intended. I don't fault you for wanting to keep the fast easy XP rolling in, but at least have some intellectual integrity. Also, fun read!

agreed...god forbid we find a way to shorten this annoying grind...un-believeable..i dotn CARE about leveling..i just want to hit 50 as fast as possible..so this is a GOOD thing

Simply put, the players are taking advantage of a poor game design in a way that was not intended.

Thus it is an exploit. No ’if’s, ’and’s or ’but’s about it.

Yet after they fix it and find another FATE to "take advantage" of, at that point it is exploiting as the development team has made their views clear on the subject. It's kinda like people finding alternative ways to speed run AK after it was clearly said that skipping trash was not the intended way of progressing through the dungeon. Those people that continued to circumvent this in a different way should be suspended.

I care because exploits like this reduce the amount of people doing other things, like non-exploitative fates, this actual fate chain, and dungeons. The more people that abuse fates like these* the less people there are to do other things, which does impact the community as a whole.

Its not an exploit so stop calling it that. Choosing to wait until the last minute to finish the fate is playing by the rules. Also trust me their are plenty of people doing the other fates, so i don't see an issue their. And dungeons are absolutely pointless until level 50 and you have to farm tokens.

You're not very good at reading, Dark devices is working as intended. people were just smart about it and didn't kill the trigger mobs. I am starting to think you don't know what an exploit is.
