Tanking sometime requires the facepalm skill

So I was in the 1000 Maw duty last night, trying to make the jump to 30, and thought I would share the experience. The Archer was good, did her dps, but was aware of me and the marks I placed, the Lancer and Conjurer on the other hand, wow, just wow. The lancer was all over the place, ignored marks, ignored adds in the boss rooms despite being told over and over to please do so, and for some reason thought it was helpful to run ahead of me and pull first. The Conjurer also liked to pull, and was trying to break new ground as a cleric by using Cleric Stance at all times and casting Stone over Cure/Medica by 3to1. It was insane, me and the Archer finally rage quit after a half an hour of this madness. We linked up and found another healer and dps and had the whole thing done in 15min. Crazy.

How about trying to be more receptive? We all have to blow off some steam every now and again.

I've been tanking a lot, as well. It's always a hassle when someone doesn't listen or isn't willing to learn how to do dungeons properly.

I don't want to alienate an entire player-base who enjoy playing Lancer, but honest to god, more often than not, the ones who don't listen and are generally a pain in the butt have been Lancers! I'm sure there are good Lancer players out there, but a lot of them, to me, seem like they're just there to make your life hell. As a tank, I feel quite badly when one of my party members die because I wasn't able to keep all enmity to myself, but there isn't much I can do when someone deliberately and constantly attacks the wrong enemies.

This is probably going to generate some heat towards myself, but I feel the Lancer class in FFXIV is the new WoW Rogue.

I will mirror this sentiment exactly. Every time I end up in a run with a LAN/DRG, I immediately start to facepalm because I just *know* that this guy is going to be a complete and total idiot: standing in bad, refusing to attack the marked target, attacking from the front, etc. For some reason, the idiots just seem *drawn* to LAN/DRG. I've started to just assume that stupidity is going to happen when I see a spear in my group.

You're actually pretty close. They do have move that require positioning behind or beside a target to do the most damage. However they don't have stealth or CC (afaik). You're right that there should be no reason to pull first, but they do tend to pull hate if they're spamming such techniques I've noticed. DD's need to watch threat a bit more sometimes... I may not be a high level Marauder tank yet, but when I blow all my TP just to hold threat then times get tough.
On another note, I seem to be alone on this, but the class I hate to see least when in a DF group is Arcanist. Specifically ones that insist on having Topaz Carby summoned. Because then I spend the whole time fighting against it for threat (I see a mob that's not on me, I try to pick it up) and for the healer's attention (heal ME gdi!). They're argument is "I can heal him, don't worry about it. I can take care of myself." and it drives me nuts because it's not them I worry about, it's me.

I 100% agree with you on this. Topaz Carbuncle is my worst enemy when tanking. I don't doubt that it can tank because I know it can. I just believe that when you're a DPS in a group then play a DPS. I don't roll my warrior then say to the group "nah I'm DPS not Tank". The amount of times I've lost TP fighting for enmity...

My worst experience was with an ARC who insisted that the healer not heal me at all but focus solely on Carby so that they could focus on doing damage "because that's what my role is, not a healer"... I nearly lost my shit but I always make an effort not to get into arguments mid party. So I suggested that they get Emerald Carby out so I could do my job properly and the healer could focus on me... Next minute they rage quit after saing that a MRD is not a real tank and that I shouldn't speak to ARC like that because they own everything...

I hate archer/bards who insist on spamming quick knock then running around with the mobs so I can't flash them.

Healers that dot off targets or DPS's as much as possible on top of the heals are the worst. Generates so much threat and they then proceed to bitch about pulling.

Tanking takes effort when dealing with 3 or 4 sized mobs. A bit too much IMO honestly, be nice if the tank stance aggro'd off targets a bit more or at least eased the over time pull of healers.

I know MRD/WAR are better at trash argo, but through some practice, advice from better players from me, and some killer pulling macros, I am pretty good at holding multiple enemies. But at the end of the day I am a GLD and my control of multiple enemies is not absolute, and have a very detail explanation of this set to a macro so I can l shot it out the second we begin.

And I agree that bad Lancer's can be a nightmare, but I've partied with alot of good ones. This guy was special, It was insane what he was doing. Oh and I forgot to mention that he and the Conjurer both kept dying and I would raise them, which is understandable for the healer, she can't raise herself, but I had to raise the Lancer because the Lv28 Conjurer didn't have Raise equipment, because "I the casttime is to long and it wastes mp".

All I could do is just stare and carry on.

Yeah, while this is part of PUG tanking and I expect it, it still sucks.

I was in a dungeon and the Wht Mage, wouldn't cast protect on me so I had to do it myself. Then they kept cursing at me, telling me to just ignore the trash mobs and head straight for the bosses and then they would run ahead and aggro things and get everyone killed. As if that wasn't bad enough they would then just sit in the back and not really pay attention during boss fights so I would never get healed and would die trying to pop potions and cure myself. They would then get all pissed off because us dying was wasting their time. Seriously, some people :P

It seems like some people go Conj/WhtMg because they think it will be easy-mode and they will get in groups and not have to do anything.
