So I hit 50 a little bit ago, and am now ready to actually work on end game stuff. But which dungeon do I start with to get gear? Ifrit Hard mode? I have quests for Palace and Amdapor...but people say those are pretty rough.

Wanderer's Palace is the main place to start. Provided you've somewhat kept up with your gear (read: weapons and accessories) it can easily be done in AF. You can work on Ifrit as well and try to get your weapon there since that can also be done in AF.
Amdapor Keep I would stay away from until you at least obtain your Wanderer's or Ifrit weapon. It can be doable in full AF and your lvl44 GC weapon, but that's a lot of pressure on the rest of the group to pick up unnecessary slack.
And as boring as it sounds you might also want to chain run Castrum Meridianum. With a good group it's a quick, efficient way to obtain philosophy tomes for Darklight gear (with the drawback that the dungeon itself doesn't drop any equipment).
Thanks! This was good information for me as I get closer to 50 as well
Also have a chat with the guy in Vesper Bay that has been opening dungeons for you.
He will set you on the Relic Reborn quest for your ultimate weapon.
Its a long quest that will require a lot of the fights you will already be doing anyways.
You will find this will probably cost you aroudn 150k - 200k for the weapon, depending on class and Materia.
So far, the best way for fast GIL I have found (if you dont have a high lvl crafter) - is to make Guildleves, they will net you around 500gil a piece.
