So I just got my Bard job and literally 10 minutes later I was asked by someone to heal them through an instance. Now I've never heard of a bard being a healer at all in FFXIV (in FFXI it wasn't uncommon to see a Bard doing some healing every now and then in XP parties I was in).
I clarified with them that they were sure they wanted a Bard - and I emphasised that I'm a DPS class and have never healer before as an Archer and had only got Bard - but they were adamant to use a Bard. I said I'd do it to test it out and we went through a small guildhest to test it out.
And well... I mean it wasn't TERRIBLE, but I definitely can't see Bard/Archer (switched to Archer after first run through as it was messy using only LB) being viable as a healer at all in end game or any instance... And I don't doubt that if the Paladin didn't use cure (and the SMN was supporting) then we would have most likely wiped. What was interesting though was that we were doing some real experimentation with the roles. And I was really having fun. I know it's not something that's viable and please don't waste your daily limit of comments by saying what a stupid idea it was, whether it is or not isn't the point of this thread.
Was wandering if anyone else has tried to mix things up with classes and play them differ ways and found a viable option for something that wouldn't normally be seen as "the way to do things"?
EDIT: sorry, as my Bard we used LB healing with a SMN supporting the tank who attempted to heal themselves most of the time. Then switched to my archer for the rest...
