According to Libra there are only the 2 mobs that drop it and their location is right there south of Dragonhead. If that is the case there are a total of 9 mobs for the entire server.

I believe they are also part of a quest for the main story line took me bout bout 1 hour to kill the number required on top of that fates pop right on them so is pretty much impossible to get them fleece

The Levequests that offer them as reward switch to shards after you do them 5 times so it's good for 30 Fleece, then it's back to fail farming 14.

Ya I got my weaving to 40, now I'm facing the same situation. The price on my server is ridiculous too, it's almost 1gil per 1.4xp ratio at this point if you were to use Fleece. The farmers that stays there 24/7 makes it hard for a WHM to compete -- and it would be impolite to just butt-in for the kill. It's always a BRD or a BLM most of the time, with their instant cast/arrow it's neigh impossible. Talking with them don't work either, most are a mute when it comes to their personal gain so sharing spawn is out of the question.
My understanding is that if you do enough damage to get xp, you're also getting loot chances, but... good luck racing a BLM in Astral Fire.Ya I got my weaving to 40, now I'm facing the same situation. Posting in the hopes of getting some sort of response to this issue from a dev

I'm not sure that's true for item drops in this situation. I killed a dozen or so that this guy I was competing with claimed and didn't get anything, ever. Half of them I did all the killing on because he'd run off to claim another. I also did a census on the amount of karakul spawns there actually are and unless I missed one there's only 12 spawns in the entire highlands; 3 in 4 places. All four places have the same people killing 24/7 on Sargatanas. Played XI and 1.0 enough to know this is most-likely-probably-almost-definitely RMT farming. The opportunity to corner and control a demanding and lucrative market is one they do not usually miss out on.
So yeah, this:
Pretty please with a Rolanberry on top?
Once thing I have noticed (and I am sure many others have).
Devs in general for this game do not respond or offer much if any official response to anything that has to do with gathering or crafting unless it is nerfing something, adding to the grind, or taking something that was already difficult and making it harder.
Examples.
1. We feel gatherers may flood the market so we are nerfing gathering points from 6-4 and oh btw the skill that gives you a guarentee hq we are leaving it at 4 successes to use it.
2. We need to extend content so we are taking all rare synths and making them unobtainable by requiring 9 overpriced npc materials instead of 1.
3. We feel Gatherers are going to be getting HQs to easily so we are going to cap hq rate at a base of 15% regardless of how high your skill is and nerf all of the gain abilities.
4. We took away the ability for all crafters to repair other peoples gear making gear repair useless unless it is your own. We won't say anything about it, good luck.
Just a few examples of the pattern. So I would not expect a Dev response for crafters or gatherers unless it is another nerf.

There should really be more spawns, I agree. But unless your server is truly riddled with bots given the sole purpose of farming fleece, it should be fairly simple to compete for the spawns.
I've been doing my story quest in that area lately and will occasionally take a break to farm up some fleece for my weaver. Even competing against several level 50s as my 38 monk, I've managed to get something like 60-70 fleece in the span of maybe 2 hours of on-and-off farming.
Also, if getting fleece really is impossible you should just do tradecraft leves for weaver that are 5-10 levels lower than you. Spam the ones that require 3 items with HQ turnins and rake in the exp. My goldsmith basically went from 35-49 off of just one level 35 leve done over and over again, using HQ turnins each time.

The biggest problem with claiming these monsters is not every job has an instant form of claiming. For some people they only have the one job they can farm on, making it next to impossible for them to get any Fleece. Whilst that is more an issue with the balance of jobs rather than this individual item, it's an issue that wouldn't exist if there was more of them. I also just don't particularly like how Fleece is so hard to acquire for anyone. It shouldn't be. There is no other item at this equivalent level that is so hard to get hold of. Hell, even Crawler Cocoons are cheaper and easier to get than Fleece and Twinthread is used in all the high level job specific gears.
