Just one more reason for me to hate FATEs as much as instances with random people. Just today I had to take tanking role from the only "real" tank in a Fate battle when he died after nobody bothered to heal him even when requested many times. The place was filled with casters and archers. (Not sure why the two lancers just ran around hitting every now and then, maybe they were so under geared.)

I tanked with my poor pugilist for good 4 minutes. Just before the boss died, I died too (as there was no single heal). I asked very politely to have at least a ress..

I watched in awe when about 30 people just vanished. No ress.. no comment.. no nothing.

And they wonder why so many people rather do solo quests and hate all the "socializing" in this game.

If you lose a bit of exp for not blasting all the time, so what.. you can save the whole instance/fate with a few well timed and located heals, and sometimes gain a good friend too to help you out with your gaming - or irl, even..

I kind of blame SE for this, there is no auto party feature for fates so healers are normally looking after number one.

Fates are probably the worst thing in this game right now, they are zergy, don't need any strategy, and it doesn't teach people how to play their class. (not to mention the big ones like Behemoth and Odin you can't even see the enemy target or your party.)

Really quite sad how it turned out.

This is SE's fault, not the conj in your Fate. I've never gotten anything other than bronze while healing a Fate. You simply do not get credit for it.

I've received gold quite a few times doing nothing but healing, though I prefer to weave in Stone I/II's, Aero and healing throughout the fight (though I sorta feel responsible when people die, granted I can prevent that from happening pretty easily). I'm not entirely sure how it's measured, though... but I'm just saying that I haven't had this issue? (Unless you're just healing one player, which might be why?). But that's on the Boss Fates... there's too many people, mobs and so forth going on in the "kill all the ____" Fates for me to really heal anyone (unless they happen to get right on my cursor).

Either way, I'll rez anyone who died (if I can). It'd be nice if Medica worked on non-partied members, since that'd likely help the healing issue at least somewhat.

I've yet to get bronze from healing in FATEs, and I tend to get gold. This is when I'm soloing, of course, as FATE parties work differently.

That said, I've been only healing people who are actually injured, so there's a lot of clicking and panning of the camera involved. Someone told me that you only get credit for actual health restored + enmity gained, and no credit for overheals, so that's how I've been doing it.

I'll obviously have to try again when I reach a higher level on my CNJ, but I'd be surprised if the mechanics change much.

Cure is a spell - specifically a healing spell and thus it's potency is linked to mind.

That means it's largely worthless for martial classes because they have very low magic attributes(int/mind/piety), offset even further by the fact conjurers and scholars also recieve significant bonuses to the potency of healing magic through traits. As such a black mage casting cure will find it significantly weaker than a conjurer casting it, and a tank will be wasting his time even trying.

And after level 30 when people branch into their job classes, most classes lose access to cure (In fact the only melee class that retains access I believe is paladin)

Target of target is your friend here.

Typically these single-boss FATE's, the boss will be fixated on a single tank (they may have AoE attacks, but if you stand in the AoE it's your own fault and I wouldn't expect the healer to go out his way for dopey people ). The bosses target can be obtained by clicking the allied name next to the bosses health bar at the top of the screen, bypassing any confusion on the field - keeping an eye on that bar and throwing them a heal when the bar starts to get low is usually all the attention the raid needs. Most FATE bosses don't even hit hard enough to justify focused healing giving time to throw stones and aeros to further contribute to your reward

Reading this thread makes my head ache. Some valid arguments aside, this pretty much describes the behavior of the majority of posters in this thread

Huh... I've never gotten less than gold healing in a FATE, even if I show up 30 seconds before the end.

Just /ac Regen <mo>, put my cursor over the target's-target's healthbar, and tab-tab-tab. Meanwhile, if I try to use my damage spells, I end up wasting a lot of casts on things that die before my spell goes off.

My Paladin friend says he has an easier time getting credit for fates by crossclassing cure and healing people than he does for actually trying to tank.

I'm pretty sure that healing and damage are counted equally, but that healing only counts if the person you're healing is combat. DDers usually only have one thing engaged at a time, so if you heal them just after they finish something off, you're not getting any credit. I also don't think overhealing gives as much (if any) credit.

In boss fates, there's really no excuse. If the tank needs healing, you'd get more credit from a 1000-point Cure2 than from a 200 point Stone.

People in a group seem to share your xp rewards at least. I know when duoing as conj with my lancer partner we both get the same amount of XP, gil and such at the end of the fight, so I let him do the damage while I heal.

all I know is that it happened before that I got not higher than silver even though I was healing the entire time (granted this was probably because of the mentioned problem with the people I was healing not actually attacking any fate-mobs)
and I've also had it happen that I was on my archer and did ONE SHOT and got gold for it.

I mean, I don't even particularly mind so much. for the fates where it 'matters' because gold gives you an award (token, pets, titles...) I'll just do them on my archer and throw some random cures in if needed, and after I got what I wanted I go back to healing full swing, but I'm of the patient kind. I don't mind if leveling takes me a little longer - I do see that a lot of people DO mind, though, and I guess for their sake this system may have to be redone.

iirc in Rift for example everyone who was in a rift-area got counted, even if they didn't actually do what the event was all about (that might have changed, I only played during beta, but I remember getting points for killing stuff in a rift-area even though it wasn't rift-mobs)
sure a system like that may case 'leeching' (though I wouldn't call people just killing none-fate stuff leeching but I bet some people would) but it's better than healers being on the low end. (yes, yes I know it's relatively easy to get gold if you throw some dps in, but why should I? it's already bad enough that technically for most boss-fates you only need one tank and the rest are useless unless there's heavy add-spawn :P)
