Just one more reason for me to hate FATEs as much as instances with random people. Just today I had to take tanking role from the only "real" tank in a Fate battle when he died after nobody bothered to heal him even when requested many times. The place was filled with casters and archers. (Not sure why the two lancers just ran around hitting every now and then, maybe they were so under geared.)

I tanked with my poor pugilist for good 4 minutes. Just before the boss died, I died too (as there was no single heal). I asked very politely to have at least a ress..

I watched in awe when about 30 people just vanished. No ress.. no comment.. no nothing.

And they wonder why so many people rather do solo quests and hate all the "socializing" in this game.

If you lose a bit of exp for not blasting all the time, so what.. you can save the whole instance/fate with a few well timed and located heals, and sometimes gain a good friend too to help you out with your gaming - or irl, even..

People in a group seem to share your xp rewards at least. I know when duoing as conj with my lancer partner we both get the same amount of XP, gil and such at the end of the fight, so I let him do the damage while I heal.

yeah the fate reward system is flawed sometimes.
i've done Cancer 2 times from the very start, healed some people and wasted all my CNJ mp into damage. got silver both times.
3rd time i got there at about 25% HP left, did basically the same thing, got gold.
    go figure.

I was a SCH at the Chimera FATE. I dot chim and cure whoever tanking or get AOE. I end up gold with an Imp baby. Kinda sucks since my LSmates think I slept around with imps.

Curing does get you points. But plain dps will net you more.

it's not someones responsibility to go around healing people. if you want to tank that fate boss then you better have a healer first and not expect things from people. as stated a few times there are times when healers don't get as much credit by simply healing and I know this for a fact because it has happened to me more times then not.

if im in a fate i'll heal my party members and myself when needed but i wont be primarily healing anybody.

    **edit:
also, on a side note, until you start paying for peoples subscriptions and paying them to play you have no real say on how they should play. i agree there are roles people need to fill but at the end of the day they're playing the game to have fun and get the most out of their money spent.

You will run into this now and then. So be sure to carry some good health potions or a pocket healer just in case.

As for me I rarely heal during a FATE anymore. I used to run around healing anybody who needed it. Which is what I like to do and they needed some curing. What started happening was that I would get multiple mob aggro from the people I was healing or get adds from wherever. Which is fine because I'm sure those good people I healed earlier will see me in need of help and then come to assist me... Right?... Nope! They always ran off to kill some other mob or left me to fend for myself. This started happening a lot and I had no other option than to disable player health bars and stop healing anyone outside of fellow party members.

So in my case tanks/dps not helping me when I was helping them kind of ruined it for themselves.

I also got this a lot. Once even when I helped out a dying player on his quest, healed him to full and took the aggro from 2 out of 3 of the quest mobs. He finishes off his target, and what did he do? He ran forward to interact with his quest objective.

I sighed and sprinted out of range, then went back to see the same player now fighting the whole 3 quest mobs again from the start, and obviously will die from the damage he was taking. I didn't heal him again.

Same in FATEs. People who aggroed regular mobs would drag the mob around in circles hoping others would take it off him, and I made the stupid mistake of healing those kind of people once. They never, never come back to finish off the mob for you. They leave the mob chewing on you, and go rushing FATE mobs for their gold medal.

Never am I going to save anyone other than the active tank again in a FATE. Never.

As a scholar I heal whoever has aggro if they're holding it on large boss fates. This is fine because I can still mainly DPS and just heal them at opportunity and still come out gold.

However, in general fates I don't focus on healing at all. Nobody is in my party so targeting is a pain and focusing only on healing is a pretty sure way to get silver or lower.

    On top of that, this:

At end tier FATEs, it quickly goes from healing other players to keeping myself standing and kiting as I quickly draw enmity from multiple mobs by healing multiple melee players.
If you want me to heal someone needs to be covering my aggro. That isn't happening.

Cannot stress this enough. If I fulltime heal on one of the few fates that actually needs it, I typically get little reward and end up tanking/kiting half of the zone into the bargain. So uh, it's both easier and more rewarding to just mindlessly spam Stone. No wonder that's what most sensible people choose to do.

The only time I think it's reasonable to expect heals in a Fate is when it a single boss type and you are tanking. And not dedicated healing, only now and then.
