The Fishing Log & Fish Guide

So, before I go into this just want to say I'm loving the game and am really enjoying playing it.

One of the reasons is that I've never had to look up a guide for anything, except fishing that is. In theory, the Fishing Log is really helpful because it allows you to look up information on a fish you've previously caught, so you can go get it again. However, it never really fulfills this function for me.

If I am doing a leve where I need a certain fish, I look it up on my Fish Guide and it points me to a location. The problem is, this fish is rarely actually found in this location and the guide doesn't tell me what bait I used, so I spen da good 15 mins or so swapping out baits in this area until I am certain that the fish isn't there (and sometimes it is I'm just unlucky).

When this happens I usually have to look it up online, and discover it's in a completely different place. For example, Razor Clams. According to the Fish Guide, it's prime location is Lower La Noscea. According to the Fishing Log, it's not actually IN Lower La Noscea, it's in Western La Noscea, Skull Valley (this is were the guild leve turn-in NPC is, so that makes sense). After fishing here with different baits for like half an hour, I looked it up online and found that it was actually fished up in Crescent Cove, Western Thanlan. So I went there, and it was a very common thing to fish up with Rat's Tail bait.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, the Fishing Log and the Fish Guide seem to contradict each other and are rarely actually helpful. Compared to the other logs in the game such as for gathering which shows you exactly where to find the item and what type of tree/bush/rock/etc.

You can pretty much guess what bait to use since it goes from lowest level fish to highest level fish. Once you know that a certain fish, like Fullmoon sardines for example are level 30-ish, and you see it in your log, you can judge accordingly on what level bait you're using for higher or lower level fish. That's how you make some money - try to zero in on the fish you want and adjust bait accordingly to only catch that.
