Yeah, I am necroing this thread, but i really don't care. I am tossing in my "Thank you!" for this guide.
My sweetie beta tested this game, and she pulled me into it just watching her play the Beta. I heal in literally every MMO I play . . . Rift, STO, NWO . . . been healing since the days of Everquest. The only popular MMO I have not tried as a healer is WoW, because despite someone getting me the game to try, I could not get into it for many reasons. It just bored the hell out of me.
However, to make my point, every MMO seems to have new and exciting approaches to healing while keeping the basic concept the same. FFXIV is no different. And now I must admit I am guilty of playing my SCH wrong up until I read this post tonight. FFXIV in the interface and in its guiding class quests does not really emphasize SCH as a protector class, so until tonight I have been using my SCH as a massive spam healer. Granted I have been successful and held my own in the groups I play in, but now i am going to reassess my skills and how I play my SCH and hopefully become better yet.
This guide is the first helpful thing i have found for SCH that I can easily understand and follow. I have asked players in game a lot for advice, and usually I get "elitest" answers, if you know what I mean, which do not help but just belittle and help to boost their own ego. We all started somewhere, and many seem to forget that.
Before i sign off, I want to point out something from the last couple of pages:
- The debate over SCH vs WHM in Coil is silly. Have I been in Coil? No, I have not. But in ANY team situation I HAVE been in where there are 8 people, WHM and SCH seem to dance together in a ballad (sorry to take music from you Bards) that keeps the party very well alive. And now that I am more understanding of my abilities from the OP of this thread, I hope that dance becomes even more meaningful.
- I am one of those healers that will not do DPS. But endgame content will have a healer so busy they will not be doing DPS anyway. I'd rather stand there for 5 seconds preparing for my next protecting move or mitigation or heal than get distracted by doing a job I am not assigned to do.
Again, thank you for this thread. And if other folks are offended I replied to an old thread . . . well . . . no heals for you.
Cheers
