    Isn't complaining about grinding in an mmorpg a bit like playing Battlefield 3 or something and then complaining that you have to shoot people to win?

    I understand doing AK for 5 months 8 times a week would be dull... but I'm under the impression we're getting additional content (some of which has already been announced) and they've been telling us for months content would be coming thick and fast.

    Make tomes of mythology cap PER JOB.

    I want to gear monk and bard, but I can only get 300 mythology per week. I need 2 weeks for a ring....

    Still not as bad as FFXI waiting several years to get a RDM hat! Never was an issue for me but knew a lot who did have the issue. They need a way to keep people playing and the 300/week total may very well be raised or removed after 2.1. I think the restriction is there so people don't outgear crystal tower before its even released.

    Every time new content is released, the previous content is getting nerfed so casuals can "see" it. So the game will always only have the most up-to-date content, if they release 1 new dungeons next update, that will be the only dungeon worth doing endgame-wise, this is exactly how WoW works, the "amount" of endgame content will never go up, they will hide the lack of content through lockouts and token caps.

    The difference is, in FF11 there was like 20 endgame events you could do to gear up, which isn't even counting HNM's, FF11 BiS (best in slot) changed mob to mob and spell/ability to spell/ability, there was literally a different BiS piece of gear for every slot for every boss in the game for every single action any/every job had and this is not even including the fact that you could have pre-cast gear, casting gear, and landing cast gear for every mage job for every spell. If you did dynamis and didn't get your hat, you go upgrade through another event, in FF14 theres nothing, you don't get your drop in coil, you log out, that's literally your only option, log out.

    But this is only a month old. When Dynamis came out, it was essentially the only real means of getting better gear outside of Sky Gods. You could also only enter once every 3 days and it would cost 1million gil. You didn't get your drop in Dynamis, you'd go fight Sky Gods and their per-requisite pops. Some jobs benefited from HNMs but not all jobs and those only popped every 24-72 hours. It's essentially the same deal here. Odin/Behemoth to get chances of gear progress (akin timed pop HNMs) AK/CM to buy gear (akin to sky gods for DL), Coil to get gear (akin to dynamis limit). When we get Crystal Tower it will alleviate some of the monotony at least.

    It wasn't until much later in its life did XI get a plethora of ways to gear. Hopefully it doesn't take as long here. I believe Dynamis wasn't even released until a year after the JP release of XI as well.

So whether or not the game is young, it could have launched with a fair bit more end-game content given how the prior content is exactly what other MMOs does - mostly copy/paste quest lines over and over to level you and no before someone jumps on me for saying that I didn't say whether that's good or bad.

    It may be a relaunch but they had to re-do just about every aspect of the game. They obviously couldn't launch a content if it wasn't finished yet (like crystal tower). You mention reintroducing but looking over the pre-patch notes all I'm seeing are extreme modes and Moogle, both of which will be changed from original concepts I'm sure. We're getting 2 hardmodes of dungeons already launched, Wolve's Den, Pharos Sirius, Crystal Tower, housing, beastmen daily quests, hardmode boss battles, treasure hunting and a feature of random matchup for duty finder which also gives tomes if you use it. A lot of that they wanted for launch but it wasn't finished yet. The fact that they did as much as they did for launch in the short amount of time they had is actually pretty impressive. Do I wish there was more? Of course. But I'm being realistic in not expecting the world from SE who was spread thin to begin with on this team.

    Your gross over-exaggerations (about the amount of 'end-game content', the huge number of BiS pieces, etc) are amusing, not least because Dynamis and all the other content you're alluding to came YEARS after XI's release and you're complaining XIV doesn't have that ON RELEASE.

    You did not read his whole post.

    XI started off slow yes. But the content built on itself, stuff was not negated for 6-8yrs. IT is why XI has more relevant endgame then any mmo ever made (Pre abysea that is).

    ARR the devs have stated they are using the WoW model of gear treadmill. So all the endgame content now, will not be endgame later. Expansion 1 will not be endgame at expansion 2. And so on. So Jeronlmo is right in both his statements in his post. It does not matter if we wait 4yrs in XIV:ARR unless the devs change the model we will always have a lack of content in terms of Relevant (events that drop BIS gear) content.

    I literally spent 20,000+ hrs over my course of playing XI in endgame and never ran out of content. This in XIV is impossible with the design, there was no exaggeration in his post. XIV will always have less content by design.
