    One Shot abilities....to many

    Really, really done with them, every boss past lvl 35 apparently needs one. most seem to be some aoe or something that hits for way to much. last 3 dungeons seem to have nothing but. One misstep or even better your wonderful servers lagging and your dead...... atm a happy healer this does not make. and from what the community says its gets worse.....much worse.....one shot mechanics does not make a good game, its a cheap shortcut for not making encounters better....and I for one will not be playing because of them.

    NO I don't want easy mode, I like a tough fight to make it by the skin of your teeth, but getting one shot is just dumb, as well as tank being crit for half their hp....So yet again I wait for a game that does shit right....bye FF hope you the best

    Maybe I just am good at moving out of bad stuff, but besides titans latency aoe, I did not notice any one shot skills. What bosses have them?

    I'm unsure what players like OP wants... theres no way to make an encounter to "make it by the skin of your teeth" as players have different gear sets, what makes it by the skin of your teeth would be a one shot to those with lesser gear and plain easy to those with greater gear...

    one-shot mechanics jolts you from your seat and demands attention and awareness to a fight in order to determine and defeat the one-shot mechanic...

    the first encounter i had with an actual one shot is in in Sunken, where i entered with the mindset of another easy tank and spank but the first boss handed me my ass with Doom.

    RPG's and FFies have traditionally had three versions of the type of damage I think the OP is looking for.

    % of current HP:
    Attacks that take a % of your current HP. (thus cannot kill you).

    % of Max HP;
    Attacks that take a % of your Max HP. (thus, does equal damage however low your HP is and can be lethal)

    Critical HP;
    attacks that reduce HP to a particular level i.e., "critical" (perhaps about 15% of Max HP) or to "1 HP".


    I see what the OP means. It might be nice to have some of the bosses attacks like that, as a better chance to see what your healer is made of.

    Duh...giving bosses 1 shot attacks is the only way SE knows how to make a fight "hard"....

    Some people call this retard checks.

    Its a dungeon mechanic, much like a boss gear check in the form of "kill the nail before it explodes and kills everyone" and if you don't have a group with good enough gear you wont be able to kill it fast enough.

    Only this is a retard check. Meaning "can your group members watch a youtube video prior to running the instance" or "can your teammates see the debuff counting down that kills you and make it to a very obvious location to remove it"

    Its usually a mechanic to make sure your group isn't utterly brain dead...which is why they call it a retard check.

    "don't stand in the stuff that kills you" Well if they made that just give a slap on the wrist for failing to do so...then why bother even moving...right?

    The traditional FFs you're talking about are single player RPGs...

    On the topic of FF14 as a MMO, wouldn't what you've suggested make the game too easy? in a sense that players no longer have the need to gear for encounters as now, attacks does percentage damage which is guaranteed not to kill you... as long as you have sufficient heals, you just can't die and as such, premade parties will have a 3-4 healer configuration with 2 of them spamming Medica 2 and you'll have a party that can challenge any content with little gear requirements.

    I agree with the OP. As a tank I can get hit by many avoidable attacks and still easily survive. It just sucks for everyone else , one mistake and your laying on the ground. Can't the game just put you down to 1 HP? Not everyone has top notch reflexes, I guess that automatically means they're a bad player to some.

    Count me in as someone who wants easy mode, and I could care less what the elitist cry babies think about that.

    I haven't noticed to many 1 shot attacks besides Titan's knockdown skill and garuda's big aoe Aerial blast. In the vigil's boss Isgebind's big 1/3rd of the arena ice blast in the air hurts a lot but I've never been killed by it as my drg, The boss in Dzesomethinsomethin darkhold's big straight line attack hurt a lot as well but no one died from the accidental hit either. I haven't gotten to endgame yet so I can't comment about that but on the journey to 50 and main storyline quests I haven't noticed anything too bad so far.
