Is Summoner worth it right now?

I'm leveling Arcanist, and I'm trying to decide if I want to play Summoner or not. I think I would really enjoy playing a DPS class, but I know that right now it's not exactly one of the best, hardest-hitting classes - and is in fact probably the least desired DPS at endgame - which is really putting me off. I've read a lot of complaints about the class, about the DoTs, the pets, etc. In comparison, Scholar, Arcanist's other possible job, is very useful and highly desired.

Is Summoner worth playing right now, especially over Scholar? Is it as bad as I've been lead to believe?

Summoner does good dps currently people just don't like that summoner focuses on DOTS rather than working together with the pet like the scholar.(I am in this camp) If you enjoy playing the class just play it.

For parties, I just have to make sure that I am super paying attention to what the tank is doing, and sometimes I just have to get my pet to "heel" to get out of the way. I haven't had any problems... But I like that its a little tricky... Ultimately spamming guys with bio, bio2, miasma, thunder, virus, and then blasting with a Fester and watch even dungeon enemies health bar cut down dramatically is super satisfying.

I love being a summoner. After you get all three pets you actually have to put quite a bit of strategy into what you're doing, because even the last one you get (Garuda) isn't necessarily the best to use when you are soloing. Once you learn some of the higher abilities (aka ruin2, fester, eye for eye, rouse) you do sick damage too. I have my choco leveled up as a healer as well, so when I have Titan out, (tank), myself (DPS), and choco (healer) I'm pretty much unbeatable.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Don't let the naysayers turn your head. Summoner, while different from every other incarnation in the FF series, can be a good DPS job in parties with Ifrit and Garuda and solo with Titan. With possibly more Egis coming in the future, why not continue with the job?

I really love playing as a Summoner (still waiting for later skills for more damage), especially with the fact that I can also deal dps as well as support others. I mean, who don't like the swiftcast + raise combo? That's very awesome playing as a party.
