[dev1030] maps need to be narrower

Just some ranting, tell me what you think.

The current areas bore me to death. The ammount of copy paste make everything miscelaneous. In XI I'd actually go "woah" and stare at a waterfall as I crossed across the bridge, there were places people would automatically use as landmarks for gathering together. You'd feel the urgency of avoiding mobs and not just outrunning them.

This is missing on XIV and I think its due to two or three things.

First of all, the lack of beastmen. But even with no aggresive goblins there are plenty of aggresive mobs in the general areas.
But why don't they feel as threatening? I think this is because the areas are too much of open spaces. You can pretty much avoid everything there is by taking a small detour.
This also takes attention from places that might be considered landmarks because people don't all take the same paths in such wide open spaces (that and because anima kills things like this).

There's the issue that its far too easy to outrun an aggresive mob.
I don't even know how to address this. They run too slow considering the distance they give up chasing maybe? At most you get hit a few times, but running in a misc derection usually means you have nothing to worry about.

If maps were narrower you'd be forced to deal with these mobs, to wait on them to be turned around in order to pass and so!

    Well, my two cents.

There is a lack of aggressive monsters at that starter area's I agree, but I think this intentionally done.

Many of the dungeons like Tam-Tara, Mistbeard and Copperbell all have aggressive monsters and narrow pathing.

Getting to Broken Water with all those Buzzards and Mitelings is kind of tough aswell, especially if you are lower level.

So yea there are places that do have aggressive monsters they just aren't around the starting area's.

Youve apparently never walked past a level 70 mob on accident hiding behind a cliff that then does 4000 damage to you on your way to camp drybone have you? There is tons of aggro in this game, and the fact that every mob has a ranged attack just makes it a living hell. Try going to Mor dhona and getting from the start of the area to the end.

Have you tried tolerating the Black Shroud's trenches for a week, day in and day out? Trust me, you do not want narrow passageways unless it makes sense. And the Black Shroud does not make sense, in the context of sensible game design.

I was talking with something more similar to northern gustaberg in mind

I think filling the maps we have now with content would be better than making them smaller.

Things to do. Right now the only parts of the map that have anything to do in them are the areas directly around the camps and gates. In Thanalan there is an Al Mihigo refugee camp and nothing to do there. there are some missions that take you to the Hamlets but they are still largely unused. Beastmen camps and roaming beastmen war parties could patrol the areas. NMs, Quest NPCs. All just examples of how they could fill it up and make it less boring.

And these are things they say they are working on addressing, so the key here is to be patient. SE has a plan, they really don't need these "fix this" threads unless it's for something they have not discussed or it legitimately needs to be fixed and they are not aware of the problem.
